In the fantasy novel, Warriors, The Apprentices Quest, Erin Hunter shows how not all things are what they seem. Erin Hunter uses the forest as her setting. In the novel, a young apprentice named Alderpaw receives a vision to go and find what’s in the shadows, and save a long-forgotten clan. He decides to go on a journey to save Skyclan. On the way, Alderpaw’s close friend and leader of the party, Sandstorm dies. But they continued their journey. A young ShadowClan apprentice named Needlepaw helps them fight foxes, after that they realize Needlepaw was following them the whole time. Needlepaw joins them, and they keep going. They finally find Skyclan but soon realize their imposters, pretending to be Skyclan! When they find out, they flee into the woods.
They fall over a waterfall, and land in a lake. Needlepaw saves Alderpaw, and after searching for their friends they decide to go back home. On the way, Needlepaw and Alderpaw hide in a barn to sleep. While their sleeping, Sandstorm comes to Alderpaw in a dream, and says to look at the prophecy differently. Needlepaw falls into a dark pipe, and finds two kittens. They decide to take them back with them. They name them Violetkit and Twigkit, and after a long journey, they return home with the two kittens. They think that Skyclan is what’s in the shadows, but they soon realize that the kittens were the key to the prophecy, and they are what they need to find in the shadows.
