In this essay I will discuss the reasons for and against whether America was right to drop the two atomic bombs. These two bombs were unloaded on Hiroshima, 6th August 1945, and attempted to hit Nagasaki, 9th August 1945. America gave the two bombs code names, the one that was dropped on Hiroshima was called ‘Little Boy’. This bomb was made of uranium. The final death toll added up to 135,000. The nuclear bomb that fell on Nagasaki was called ‘Fat Man’. This bomb was made of plutonium. The final death toll was about 70,000. This was because the bomb had missed its allocated target and instead fell into a valley.

of the two bombs. The first reason was because Japan attacked Pearl Harbour using their special air suicide attacks called the ‘Kamikaze.’ The aim of the strike was to protect Imperial Japan's advance into the Dutch East Indies and Malaya for their natural resources such as rubber and oil, by neutralizing the U.S.
Pacific Fleet. This led to the American entry in World War II. Another obvious reason was the atomic bombings brought the war to a more timely end, rather than having to keep up with a frustrating naval land invasion, losing many of our American soldiers. And I think America would rather lose Japanese people than their own people. The third reason was of the horrific incidents between Japan and China. Japan was consistently invading China from 1931 to 1937. Japan raped, plundered and pillaged China prior to attacking the US at Pearl Harbor. As the war progressed China joined the Allied powers but was occupied by Japanese forces close to the border. When Colonel Doolittle took a group of pilots and attacked Japan's industrial sites in Tokyo and a couple other cities, China was the designated landing site. Unfortunately due to Japanese occupation for the most part - none of the planes made it back. Almost all of the pilots and crews did make it out but he felt it was a failure without the planes as well. Approximately twenty million Chinese died, 9.3 of which were civilians and about one million Japanese. This bomb can also be a test, which the Americans can then use on other countries to
protect their allies. The whole project codename was the Manhattan Engineer District, known as the Manhattan project. The final reason was to prevent the spread of communism. By 1945, Poland was under a communist regime and the chances were high of the rest of Europe becoming communist. The United States, despite being allies with Russia during the Second World War, disliked Communism with an extreme passion. The United States obviously hoped that, through the use of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, the Russians would be intimidated and thus be more agreeable in negotiations for the division of Europe. Without such a weapon, the Russians would have been ruthless in their ideological takeover of Europe. Of course, since Stalin knew almost everything the Americans did about the atomic bomb, through use of Klaus Fuchs and an accomplice, they were as cool and calm as ever. The United States, however, did not know this, and thus had the right to be as confident as they were at Potsdam. With such motivation to back them, the United States felt justified in dropping the atomic bomb in order to prevent the spread of communism in Europe by intimidating Russia.
This paragraph contains the reasons against the dropping of the two nuclear atomic bombs. The first reason is that many innocent Japanese civilians died. War is war, it means you kill the enemy army, or damage the war machine, not to just randomly kill or bomb civilians. The same story happened with Hitler; he just took his V-1 and V-2 rockets and just sent them flying to London. And this is now considered as a war crime. Another reason is that the Americans don’t know how strong or accurate the bomb is. It could miss the target and fall into the sea, it could have a huge radiation effect on the people on the aeroplane, and it may have not any effect at all and so on. The third reason could be that after the bombings, Japan might attack back on us, because they have two other majorly powerful countries on their side, Germany and Italy. This means that many of our soldiers would be dead. Other countries would be afraid of America, and would betray them. This means that a lot of powerful countries would be against America and demolish them. Japan was already losing the war by a huge margin. The Americans shouldn’t have dropped the bombs on Japan; it was a complete waste of time, effort, money and resources.
Japan did operate many bad acts against China from 1937 onwards such as pillaging, raping, plundering and invading many provinces and to a certain extent this bothered America. All of this was prior to the Pearl Harbour incident which led America in their entry to World War II. And all of this led to the dropping of the two atomic bombs. But was it really necessary? Because many innocent civilians live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and they didn’t do anything. Should they have even bothered dropping it in the first place? Japan was already losing the war. Was it tested properly?
Overall I think that dropping the atomic bombs was a good idea and that Japan deserved to be put in that way after what they did for so many years. Therefore I conclude that America was justified in dropping the atomic bombs.
