In June of 1919, Germany and the Allied Nations signed the Treaty of Versailles, which officially ended the war. Under the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to accept full blame for the war. Additionally, they had to pay reparations which lead to a considerable loss of land and the inability to join the League of Nations. Peace was not found between the nations because it left Germany, once powerful nation, to take full blame for what happened. It also lead Germany to be full of bitter resentment which allowed for World War II to happen. Essentially, the world has experienced many conflicts that threatened the peace of the people. Nationalism was an essential factor in the origination of World War I because it gave citizens excessive confidence in their nation and made them arrogant. Without nationalism, World War I would not have been such a turning point in history because the conflicts between the two sides threatened the peace. At the end of the war, the Treaty of Versailles did not resolve the peace, but instead started another world

Nationalism was the one major and true factor of the war, nothing could come close to how major this played in World War I. Beginning with Emile Zola in The Origins of the First World War (Doc B) a country had to have a strong army in order for the country to live. Even states once a country loses its army then the country will die out (Doc B). Continued on by A French Citizen, Bertrand, and Kaiser Wilhelm II in The Origins of the First World War and The Guns of August (Doc C) many people supported nationalism and wanted war to happen by having shouts in public to help promote the reasons. John T. McCutcheon draws a picture (Doc G) showing how every country as people had a way to “point the finger at” each other country mainly Germany being the main victim against four others. A newspaper by Colonel Dragutin Dimitrevic using The Origins of the First World War (Doc I) Serbia is saying that the only way…

The first underlying cause of World War I is Alliances. .Alliances caused world war I by alliances due to Russia providing support for Serbia and Germany supporting Austria-Hungary. An example of this is that on Document A it shows both Serbia and Russia had a special ethic tie due to both of them having nations that had the Majority of slaves inhabiting it , therefore when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia had to assist them as Germany does the same for Austria-Hungary. Therefore causing World War I as all the Nations are helping each other to fight…

When World War 1 ended, there was many casualties and damages throughout the four years. Most importantly, it left a doubt on who caused World War 1 and who was going to pay for the damages made. To settle this arguement there was a conference that united twenty seven countries and excluded 5 countries, Russia and the Central Power, called the Paris Peace Conference . The conference took place in Paris, France in June 28, 1919. In the conference, the Treaty of Versailles was created to end conflict between the Allied power and Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was not justified because the Allies blamed Germany for igniting the spark to the war and forced them to pay for all the damages that the war left.…

One cause of World War I was Militarism. Germany had an industrialized military and spent millions of dollars trying improve and prepare them for war. Many other countries seen this newfound competition and started to try and rebuild their armies and navy so they could keep up. With Germany’s new and improved army, they started to gain confidence and were convinced that they could win a war. Germany was very focused on utilizing their army. As soon as the war declared, Germany without a doubt didn’t hesitate to “make the first move.” This caused a problem however because of the other nations rush to industrialize their armies and try to make them just as good or if not better than Germanys. Militarism played a huge part in the cause of World War I.…

There are conflicting views on this topic as the subject is a complex one. However, it is true that it was a war that could have been avoided. It can be argued that WW1 was inevitable in the circumstances, but if we look at the very root cause of the war was limited and could have been controlled. It was a series of events that triggered a massive, global war. The organ of the conflict was disagreement between Austria-Hungary and Serbia’s on how to handle the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. No other countries were involved in the matter connected with the assassination. Russia and Germany got involved simply because of their objectives to safeguard Austria-Hungary and Serbia, respectively. Other countries like Britain, France, and the Ottoman Empire had almost no interest in the matter. Thus, if Russia and Germany had kept out of the matter, in simple words, the war could have been avoided.…

I do believe that Nationalism was the main cause of the war because it all began from countries trying to get their freedom from the Austria-Hungary Empire. Guarilo Principe shot Francis Ferdinand because he didn’t want to be under their control any longer. Then, of course, the other countries went to war not only because of the allied agreements but because they did not like the countries they were up against. In this war, there were two types of nationalism: there was the type where countries did what they did for their own self-interest. The other type was that some of these countries, such as Austria-Hungary, had so many different ethnic groups who all wanted their independence.…

History is often a quilt of information that is not always stitched together properly, but in the time period from 1914-1918 it is clear that world war one was caused by a single country, Germany. Evidence of this comes from the fact that Germany believed that war was inevitable, they were in the process of designing military strategies for a war prior to Austria-Hungary having any hostility towards Serbia, and tried to pressure countries into unwanted treaties. There is information to suggest that Germany anticipated a war ever since they themselves became a country. In 1871 “following the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War, Germany was unified as an Imperial federation of states” (thehistoryplace.html, 2009). Since Germany was only a newly developed country they had not colonized any part of the world which lead the German government to suggest attacking other countries in order to gain more land.…

World War I was an accident which was caused by bad decision-making by leaders of Great Powers. Kaiser Wilhelm II gave Austria-Hungary Germany’s unconditional support in destroying Serbia. This upset the Balance of Power among the Great Powers and threatened to undermine the influence of Russia if Serbia were to be wrecked in the localized war. This forced Russia to mobilize its troops, effectively dragging another Great Power and its allies into the conflict. Besides, it…

As Hobbes said in Leviathan, “if any two men desire the same thing, which nevertheless they cannot both enjoy, they become enemies”. Men are equal and interact in anarchy, driven by competition, diffidence, and glory. World War I was prompted by the self-centered behavior of Germany in the early 20th century combined with the achievement of balance of power in Europe. For realists, the war could have been a case of security dilemma for Germany in a system of balanced power; however, certain critiques would argue that nationalism caused the war with the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian arch-duke and successor to the throne, Franz Ferdinand. Despite the archduke’s death clearly being the first action leading to the war, realists would agree that without the system of alliances in Europe, the war in itself would have been a different one. With the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, the war was officially over and Germany was given full responsibility for the horrors and disasters of the Great War. In this essay, we will discuss how and why realists would also blame Germany for the war.…

World War 1, one of the biggest wars in history, did not begin because of one problem; it was a mixture of many different factors that eventually caused the final outcome. This war was so great because it basically included all of Europe. As we look back to the events that led up to the war, we see that one country looks like they are the cause of most of the problems; this country was Germany.
