    47 Ronin Summary

    • 500 Words
    • 2 Pages

The purpose of this novel is to give an accurate retelling of the original 47 ronin from 1701 in Japan. John Allyn Jr. is incredibly qualified to retell this story. He attended the Army Specialized Training Program at Stanford University in 1944, where he majored in Japanese language. He later attended the Army Intensive Japanese Language School at the University of Michigan in 1945. He worked as Pictorial Censor of the Civil Censorship Detachment of G2, SCAP, in Osaka and Tokyo during the first four years of the U.S. occupation of Japan. He returned to America and attended UCLA where he received his master's degree in Theater Arts in 1951.…

    Jud Suss

    • 1194 Words
    • 5 Pages

‘’The events on this film are based on historical facts’’ – this seemingly harmless exposition in the film Jud Süß by Veit Harlan creates an immediate impression to viewers that the plot is credible and unbiased. This is the beauty of Jud Süß as an anti-Semitic Film - the storyline and characters are so well developed that it becomes easy for viewers to lose track of the underlying anti-Semitic tones present. The propaganda is not apparent but is presented in a subtle manner that smoothly contributes to the overall plot of the film. However, despite Harlan’s effective effort into its subtlety, Jud Süß is undeniably an anti-Semitic film. Ironically, the lack of crassness and evident propaganda in the film makes it extremely effective as an anti-Semitic film as viewers could leave the cinema with a new born prejudice against Jews without even knowing it.…

I found the article “The Information” by Adam Gopnik to be a difficult read. The information seemed to jump around and was very difficult to follow. While I understood the point Gopnik was making I couldn’t dive into the information like I wanted to. I wasn’t rally sure of Gopnik’s view on the subject, is he an Ever-Waser? What does, it’s not about the toast but the butter really mean? Is Gopnik trying to say that it’s not about the new technology but how we use it?…

Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach Germany in 1685. Bach could sing very well and studied Latin, Greek and theology in St. Michael’s School. He played organ in a church at Arnstadt when he was 18. The church didn’t really like him because of his improvisational style of the songs. So he walked to Lubeck to study with a famous organist Buxtehude. Buxtehude liked Bach so much that he offered to give him a job if he married his daughter, in which Bach declined. Some of his career moves include working as an organist to the Duke of Weimar from 1708 to 1717, moving to Cothen to be the leader of an orchestra to Prince Leopold from 1717 to 1723, and then Bach was appointed Cantor of the St Thomas School. By 1725, he has written 2 complete cycles of cantatas. By 1729 he has written 4 complete cycles of cantatas (200 cantatas!). In 1748, Bach was losing his eyesight and eventually went blind. He died in 1750 at the age of 65. Bach’s Lutheran faith was an important aspect of his music life, in which he writes “To the Glory of God” in many of his works. He was a master of contrapuntal arts and helped create the well-tempered tuning system we use to this day. In his lifetime Bach has composed over 1000 musical works.…

Based on the personality profile I completed in class my personality type is ISTJ, Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging. According to various sources on personality types ISTJ's are often referred to as "Inspectors". I agree with a lot of what I have read about my personality type. ISTJ's often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold. This is perhaps one of the truest statements about me that I have seen. Many people find me to be cold and standoffish if not conceited and stuck-up. I prefer spending time alone, or with a few close people rather than go to parties, bars, or clubs. Very often when I go to the mall or other chaotic places I am over stimulated and overwhelmed by the people and the commotion. After an hour or two of such activity I feel the need to go home, it becomes too much for me.…
