Lab 5 - Demonstration 1: Modeling the Water Cycle
POST LAB QUESTIONS
1. Which water cycle processes are represented in this model and by what components?
Answer = Condensation and evaporation are represented in the model. Condensation formed inside the jar and under the lid and the warm water evaporated.
2. Which processes are not represented? How could the model be altered to include these processes?
Answer = Precipitation and infiltration did not get represented. I don’t think it could be altered to include the these in the process without different specimens such as water, ice or even soil.
3. How would the “weather” be affected if the water was at a decreased temperature? What about at an increased temperature?
Answer = I think that the water would be calm at a decreased temperature.
Experiment 1: Water Movement
POST LAB QUESTIONS
1. Develop a hypothesis predicting the effect of sunlight on evaporation?
Hypothesis = My hypothesis is that the sun will heat the bag of water and evaporate at a fast rate than the one in the shade.
2. Based on the results of your experiment, would you reject or accept the hypothesis that you produced in question 1? Explain how you determined this.
Accept/reject = I accept my hypothesis because the sun did heat the water faster than the one in the shade.
3. What parts of the water cycle are represented in this experiment?
Answer = The parts of the experiment that are represented are evaporation, precipitation, and condensations.
4. How would increasing the proportion of land (sand) to water affect the amount of water vapor released?
Answer = I think increasing the proportion of land would affect the water vapor released the more the sand temperature rise the more water that will be getting out.
5. How would drought conditions impact infiltration and evaporation from the ground?
Answer = The ground needs moisture to help with evaporation and infiltration or the ground
