Water bottle use is not only harmful to the environment, but it is harmful to people’s wallets too. Bottled water usually costs around 1 dollar per 20 ounce bottle. At 5 cents an ounce a gallon of bottled water would cost 10 dollars. This makes water, a necessary aspect of life, cost more than gas. Despite this outrageous price tag many still tend to throw away their hard earned cash towards bottled water which is on average about $550 a year. The same water that is bought using dollars can be obtained for mere pennies if it were taken from the tap, but Tap water? Isn’t bottled water better? You may be surprised at how little you know.
It is estimated that around 40% of bottled water is in fact tap water. This means that 3 dollar water you buy at a local corner store may actually come from some rusty pipes, not natural springs from Fiji as it was advertised. Even if it comes from the tap bottled water may actually be harmful to one’s health. Over time plastic will leech into the water causing harmful chemicals to be released and ingested. Regulations are also much more lenient when it comes to bottled water. This means that harmful chemicals such as mercury can be easily found in bottled water; unlike tap water which is much more closely monitored and tested every week to insure optimum safety.
Not only is bottled water negatively effecting people, it is also effecting the
