Water is essential to Earth. We need it to cook, bathe, provide power, control fire, and last but not least, we need it to live! Therefore, it is very important to human survival.
When 70% of Earth is made up of water, you would think that we have plenty of water for our needs. But really, about 97% of that water is made up of ocean. We cannot use this water because it is too saline for our needs. Only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh, and 2% of that supply is frozen in ice caps and glaciers. That leaves us with only 1%.
Demand for water increases every year. The tricky thing now, is to figure out how to use our water wisely. The United States have been lucky to have plentiful water supply. Water has been cheap and people have been wasteful and careless on how they use their water. They have been dumping sewage and chemicals into rivers and lakes, damaging the water and aquatic animals. If we want to have cheap fresh water, then we must start conserving water.
We have the same amount of water as there was when Earth was created. This is all the water we have and must preserve the quality. We cannot live without water. Besides air, water is our most precious resource. Conserving water helps our environment as well. It helps reduce pollution and in conserving fuel resources. Conserving what we have now, will lessen the effects of droughts and water shortages in the future. Saving water now ensures a water supply adequate for generations in the future. We have to think of future generations! People will not have enough water in the future if we don’t start conserving water right now. It’s easy to conserve water at home, but there’s much more to be done. Demands for water increase every year. A 40% increase is expected in water demand in the next 2 decades! If we don’t act now, in future generations, they won’t have enough water to thrive! As citizens of this planet, it is our responsibility to take a
