The Waterhouse project was an inquiry that looked at children’s abuse within children’s homes in 1996 that was opened by the welsh secretary. It all started when Sir Ronald Waterhouse who was a retired high court judge opened a tribunal of enquiry into child abuse in North Wales in 1974. It was a huge abuse scandal and took evidence from 575 witnesses, including 259 complainants alleging abuse when they were in care. Over 9500 social services files were made available and over 3500 police statements were scrutinized. There were well over 40 000 pages of evidence of complaints for just 40 homes and foster placements.…

After her tour of the facilities, she’s presented with three water-filled glass containers and challenged to assign each container to a selection of choices: tap water, traditionally treated wastewater, and purified sewage water. This test is obviously to prove the quality of the facility’s purification process because the purified sewage water is aesthetically the cleanest and purist. After this demonstration, Heffernan was immediately engaged and supportive of the San Diego AWPF’s mission and project. She also explains that because of the reoccurring droughts, many residents of California are starting to favor the idea of reusing sewage water, with the stipulation that all purified sewage water be released into reservoirs before use, a process known as indirect potable reuse. The San Diego Public Utilities Department also recommends this procedure but suggested an extra step. Known as direct potable reuse, this method would intensify the purification process and skip the reservoir, sending it straight to the tap. No one knows which technique will be implemented, but, Heffernan explains that whichever process does succeed will persuade California regulators in the…

The capital investment in municipal water-treatment facilities totals about 250 billion, and the annual cost of operating them is roughly 5 billion. Some 2 billion is spent annually in capital improvement of the facilities. Even so, the cost of drinking water remains low, still well under a dollar a ton, or about one cent for more than 150 eight-ounce glasses. Estimates are that meeting the costs of repairs, upgrades, and the construction of new facilities, coupled with the supporting infrastructure, will approach 140 billion (CEQ, 1998)…

I looked out the window of my office, gazing at the great city of Chicago spread out before me. I had risen quickly through the ranks of Quench Water Bottles, and now occupied the position of assistant CEO. That was pretty good, for only 24. I looked down at my computer screen. An email had just come in from the CEO, Jackson Swoland. I opened it. “Report to my office immediately. Urgent.- Jackson Swoland” I jumped up and headed out the door.…

On October 9th I attended the colloquium “Charity Water,” by Cubby Graham. In this colloquium, Graham talked about 800 million people who didn’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. Diseases such as e. Coli, Salmonella typhi, and schistosoma were found in the water that they were drinking from. They shared the same water with the animals as well. People were also battling with leaches stuck in their throat from drinking the water.…

“Not only does bottled water lead to unbelievable pollution but plastic has chemicals in it!” Suzuki states. Have you ever bought a package of water at the grocery store and then went on, without thinking about where it came from? In fact spring water is found at hazardous dumping sites. Why buy bottled water when 25% of bottled water is actually tap water and that tap water is nowhere near free from clean.. Some chemicals you can find in water bottles are Biphenyl A. Reusing these bottles can be harmful as well. Each time you reuse them the chemicals spread more and more. Each time the chemicals spread through your body and into the fluids from the water. Many water bottles such as Sigg, Klean Kanteen and Gaiam prevent these chemicals from entering in the bottles. People should use reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles because of the negative impact that creating plastic bottles has on the environment, the cost involved and the water in plastic bottles is not always cleaner.…

As a response to deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military at Old Sarum, the decision was taken to resite the cathedral and the bishopric was moved to its present place in Salisbury.[3] The move occurred during the tenure of Bishop Richard Poore, who was a wealthy man and donated the new land for construction. The new cathedral was also paid for by donations, principally by all the canons and vicars of South East England, who were asked to contribute a fixed annual sum until its completion.[4] Legend has it that the Bishop of Old Sarum shot an arrow in the direction he…
