Even after being selected Hextall returned to the Wheat Kings for two more years. In 82-83 Hextall had a 5.77 GAA in 44 games. In 1984 Hextall arrived at camp with high expectations of making the Flyers, but Hextall was sent to the affiliate team. Hextall was disappointed with being sent to the Kalamazoo Wings, but the knew he was playing tougher, faster, and more competitive hockey then before. Hextall work as hard as he could, and it paid off. The Flyers had him play 19 games with Kalamazoo before shipping him to the Hersey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL). A few years in Hersey, some hard work helped Hextall reach his a ultimate goal of the NHL. After a couple years in the NHL Hextall created a name for himself, Hextall wasn't afraid to fight. He would do anything to help his team capture a win. In 1987-88 Hextall made NHL history by becoming the first goalie to score a goal. He had shot the puck from his crease down the ice and into the open net. This task is very difficult to complete and he is one of few to do it. That is the reason I wrote about the Brandon native, because he has done something few have…
