If direct words are used in your work, you must place quotation marks around those words to indicate that you have taken them from another text and provide a citation. Cutting and pasting from websites is considered plagiarism. Please 2 review the Student Code of Conduct and the University’s Safe Working and Learning Environment Policy for an explanation of appropriate and expected behavior.…
When paraphrasing or summarizing passages, avoid plagiarism by the use of in-text citations that include the name of the author and article and date of publication.…
Ben R. Martin explains, “a succession of scandals over the last decade or so has challenged our assumptions about the efficacy of self-policing in these communities” (Martin, 2013, p. 1005). This shows the growing problem or at least awareness of plagiarism in the world and the importance of taking Goodwin’s mistake seriously. However, technology has indeed made it easier to detect these acts of theft or even prevent the mistake of releasing a writing with unquoted words. Throughout the work of Gipp, Meuschke, and Breitinger in the journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology they speak of various methods of electronic plagiarism detection (Gipp, Meuschke, & Breitinger, 2014). New methods such as citation-based plagiarism detection and new oversight tools are constantly being…
Imagine flying across the world for a wedding where once a first love who broke your heart was going to be. A young girl by the name of Peyton is going to her Uncle's wedding in Florida. She met a boy named Jace there last year and fell completely head over heels for him. A week before the wedding she found out he was going to be there also. She had a few doubts about not going to the wedding because of him, but her mother made her go because it was family. The Puritans would obliterate the book, right of way due to their inappropriate clothing, sinful lives and lack of family values.…
According to Lowe & Dougherty (2014), intentional plagiarism typically stems from fear of failure, poor planning/time management skills, or viewing the course material and the consequences of cheating as unimportant. Unintentional plagiarism is usually caused by a lack of understanding the use of proper citations when attempting to integrate ideas. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to learn the appropriate use of citations and the proper format for references. Understanding the difference between using someone else’s words in a direct quote and paraphrasing is important, as each method requires the information to be cited differently. Aside from learning the appropriate use of citations and references, it is necessary to understand the importance of course materials and the seriousness of the consequences for cheating. Learning proper time management skills will also help students to remain vigilant when citing sources used to support the information being…
As discussed in Understanding and Avoiding Plagiarism, the worst consequence of failing to acknowledge sources is to yourself: if you paste in someone’s words as your own, you will miss the opportunity to add your commentary, and therefore miss an opportunity to grow as a thinker and writer. Most of this guide focuses on such intellectual reasons for working properly with sources, rather than emphasizing the penalties of plagiarism. But because the copy and paste technique is so common, it’s especially important to warn you about its potential for abuse. Every year students come before the Yale Executive Committee having committed plagiarism through pasting material from the Internet into their papers and then forgetting to go back and identify the sources. Even when the oversight seems unintentional, these students are guilty of plagiarism, and must face penalties.…
According to Hacker in Howard’s article, plagiarism can be defined in two ways. First, plagiarism can be defined as the act of using another person’s ideas or information without mention the source. Secondly, it can be defined as the act of paraphrasing closely word from a source without using quotation marks to show that the words belongs to another person even though…
The three types of leadership styles that should be used for the Denver Airport Project are transformational, directive and empowering leadership. Transformational leadership should be used because the City of Denver seemed to have high expectations and this type of leadership motivates the team to work toward the goals and do more than expected. Issuing instructions and commands that align with the goals would include the use of Directive leadership. Lastly empowering leadership should be used as it encourages independent action, opportunity thinking, teamwork, self-development, self-reward and participate in goal setting.…
Plagiarism according to Perrin, Larkham, and Culwin (see Okoro 2011, p.174) is simply explained as the use of someone else’s intellectual property without proper acknowledgement of that source. It is in its own way a form of ‘theft’. According to Okoro (2011), plagiarism is known to occur for various reasons, carelessness being in the forefront. His research shows that 90% of students know they are plagiarizing but do so anyway because they consider it to be a lesser ethical crime than other high profile instances of dishonesty. Other causes may include ignorance of students who are not completely aware of what plagiarism constitutes and have not really been educated on the proper ways of acknowledging their sources. Research by Scanlon and Neumann (see Okoro (2011), p. 176) Shows that majority of students actually know that plagiarism in all its forms is wrong. When asked, Over 80% of them responded positively against plagiarism, saying that it is completely unacceptable. In practice however (Walker 2010) majority of these students are found to plagiarize. The majorities of such groups are found to be international students whom English is not their first language and therefore find it difficult to express themselves in English and result to the easy way out: copying. Text matching software to some extent is quite good at pointing out instances of plagiarism but at the same time it is highly limited by the extent to which it can enter into databases such as…

The first step is using quotations when using another person’s words in your own work, people can use another person’s words as much as they want, but if they don’t give the other person credit, it’s plagiarism. Another step in avoiding plagiarism is citing sources. Any time you’re writing an article it is important to cite any sources you gathered ideas or information from. A lot of people don’t realize another key issue, even if you didn’t directly quote someone, but used their ideas or paraphrased their words, a citation is still…
Plagiarism can be exposed in many other way ways, not just simply copying one’s work word for word without using quotation marks. Be always mindful to also give the author credibility by also including the source in the bibliography. Plagiarism is shown not just through copying word for word, but also through small ideas and information that are used from other sources and incorporating it as your own without citing the source(Plagiarism).…
Three of the most common errors used for plagiarism are failure to quote or give credit for the words and ideas of others, copying an article from the Internet and paraphrasing poorly. Too often these are common mistakes that writers takes for granted especially quoting poorly. They believe they will not be caught and when they are caught, they are in denial. Writers will put quotation marks around only part of the quotation but not the entire quote. I have been guilty of using quotation poorly. I have learned in order to make sure plagiarism is nonexistence in my papers is to check it for plagiarism before submitting…
