We Are Becoming Increasingly Dependent on Computers. They Are Used in Businesses, Hospitals, Crime Detection and Even to Fly Planes. Is This Dependence on Computers a Good Thing or Should We Be More Suspicious of Their Benefits?
Task: We are becoming increasingly dependent on computers. They are used in businesses, hospitals, crime detection and even to fly planes. Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits?

The last two decades have witnessed a dramatic increase in the utilization of computer devices almost everywhere. It is indisputable that it has brought significant benefits to our lives in many spheres such as economics and science. However, it is also alarming as to whether we are becoming increasingly dependent on computers or not. As far as I am concerned, I believe that computers are playing a highly important role in our modern life and we need not doubt their advantages.

Firstly, the main reason for my perspective is that the computer can remarkably reduce the amount of manual work. Many companies nowadays use computers not only to store business data and millions of documentations but also to perform different kinds of operations that previously required more time and people to complete. Take consumer research as an example, a computer can be processed many survey results in an hour which would take months for a team to get the same outcome.

Secondly, the accuracy of our performance could be enhanced with computer’s help. For tasks that involve handling a vast amount of data, people are bound to make mistakes. Moreover, people when making decisions rely not only on careful analysis but also on intuitive judgment, whereas the behaviours of computers are much more disciplined. Hence, our jobs can be done with more precision.

Last but not least, by using computer devices we can save people from dangerous activities. For example, some corporations in Japan are replacing humans with robots in mining industry, which significantly reduces human risk in such kind of jobs.

Finally, I believe that computers definitely can improve our life. We are satisfied with them and sometimes we even thank them because they help

Kenneth Littleton Crow, a handicapped comedian, was my favorite comedian from the “Able to Laugh” comedy video. In his skits, Kenneth brings up wheelchair accessibility as well as interactions between disabled and non-disabled people. He jokes about how people do not always want to look at him while talking because they are uncomfortable or, how they do not know what to say to him because they feel bad for him. In the video Kenneth stated, “If they just stopped for a minute and thought well…you know maybe they’re not any different from me” (1:54). I completely agree with his message of breaking down former attitudes, building up feelings of mutual respect, and providing knowledge of life with a disability is like.…

‘Stolypin’s necktie’, this quote was a piece of black humour which nicknamed the execution noose after Stolypin, in a period of mass executions during 1906 and 1911. Arguably this quote shows one that the 1905 revolution did not achieve a legislative, peaceful Russia. However, in this essay one will argue that even though there was significant political change in the way that the tsar’s power had been diminished from the October manifesto of 1906 to a more democratic country. That there were several limitations which obtained all rights given in the October manifesto such as fundamental laws and electoral reforms. Also, one will consider the change in the economy; Stolypin’s land reforms and land banks, and the cancellation of the redemption payments. However, it will be considered that these economic changes were hardly valid due to un-content peasants and bad land. Finally, social change will be assessed as social reforms took place e.g. better education, and civil rights and the acceptance of trade unions. However, one will argue that all of the social improvements were also out-manoeuvred by repression of workers, the Lena goldfield’s incident and Stolypin’s ‘necktie’. Overall, in this essay one will assess the changes in Russia made possible by the change of power situated in Russia with the limitations that took promises made by the tsar away from the people.…

Many nonindustrial cultures may be influenced or forced to adapt their ways of life because of changes around them or in their environment (H351). When nonindustrial cultures adopt the characteristics of more industrial societies this is known as modernization. The conformity of modernization is encouraged by industrial capitalist societies and the societies who choose to follow their own traditional roots are looked down upon as they are viewed to be more primitive. Modernization consists of four sub processes: technological development, agricultural development, industrialization, and urbanization (360). The outcome of modernization can be positive, but it can also produce negative results.…
