We Are Too Dependent on Technology
We Are Too Dependent on Technology Have you ever gad one of those mornings where nothing goes right? You woke up late; you have to take a cold shower, and to make things worse you even have to walk into class late and explain why. You’re already in a bad mood, and then you realize that you left your cell phone at home. No phone means no life. You suddenly feel cut off from the technological world. Technology has transformed the way we function through out the day; and I think that teenagers definitely depend on technology too much. Depending on technology has caused us to lose the ability to think for ourselves. Instead of having to figure out the answers to questions, we just go on the internet and find the answer that way. Everyone does it, because we like to take the easy way out. For example, we even have digital calculators so that we don’t have to multiply, divide, add, or subtract by ourselves. Technology was invented to help us, but instead people are using it as an excuse to be lazy. Due to the excessive use of texting and online chatting, teenagers writing skills have plummeted. Instead of writing letter to communicate with people far away, you can just send them a quick text to see how they are doing. Teenagers aren’t worried about improving their writing skills as much as they are about staying in contact with their friends. And to make matters worse, most people don’t know the spelling of different words, how to use correct grammar, or how to write in cursive. I believe that patience is a virtue, and no one can be entirely happy without it. A key part of having patience is determination. But the misuse of technology is causing children to lack patience. For example, if it takes too long for a webpage to load, you might find yourself becoming frustrated. I personally think the worst thing about technology is the fact that children are becoming obese and don’t participate in physical activities anymore. Instead of going outside and playing,

Technology is controlling and changing our everyday lives. I strongly believe Gary Shteyngart in his article “Only Connect”; not only is the I-phone changing everybody lives, but any other smart phone that exists in today’s society. Shteyngart says “With each passing year, scientists estimate that I lose between 6 and 8 percent of my humanity, so that by the close of this decade you will be able to quantify my personality.” He is correct because every year technology changes and advance. Each year people personality decrease in how they act in their everyday life. Smart phones have everything you can possibly imagine. Society is becoming too comfortable and lazy because they have all the answer they need rite at the palm of their hands. Smart phones have become very addicting to the point that people are not realizing the damage it’s doing to them self.…

The new generation of kids are being affected by technology enormously throughout the growth of technology. Ruth states in her article that a study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that children from the age of eight to eighteen are spending more than seven and a half hours a day on technology (Ruth 1). Which affects the children because it cause them to do less physical activity. She also states “The danger with our technology-obsessed kids, Greenfield warns, is that they are no longer accustomed to the full range of mess and meaningful human interaction” (Ruth 2). Have we become too depended on our portable technology? Some people, not just teenage girls, cannot function without having their phone in hand constantly. Technology is not a just product anymore, it is a lifestyle, and without it people honestly do not think that they will not make it. These smart phones have everything on them; you can access internet search sites, shopping net works, public networks, and so much more. People are so into their phones that they will look like complete idiots by running into things and sometimes seriously hurting themselves because they are so taken into by their phones.…

Technology affects our life so much that it got to the point where it is keeping us away from more and better opportunities. According to Jennifer Ludden, the author of the article “Teens Texting Soars; Will Social Skills Suffer?” “As her students are increasingly immersed in texting, Halkett also finds them increasingly shy and awkward in person” (14). Students are getting shy, which means they do not participate in activities on their community or school. They are losing the opportunities to meet and work with a lot of new people, gain new experiences and enhance their abilities. Teenagers feel shy and awkward, so they tend to stay at their houses. From the article “Teenagers and Social Networking: It Might Actually Be Good for Them,” Clive…

Every day at school, I see people with white ear buds blasting music out. Even a girl rapidly texting on her phone under her desk during class. During lunch, my friends always have their iPod or smart phone out. While I was in cultural geography, when we were doing our competency a girl besides me said, "Mr.Lee is there any website on the computer that isn't blocked, so that I could listen to music because my iPod runs out of battery quickly if I listen to music." I know that for some people listening to music helps them, but when I heard this question I thought, "Are you serious?" Also every time I check Facebook (which is rare) there's always the same 8 people posting often and is almost always on. I don't think using these new technological advancements is always a good thing. The worst aspect of many teens today is that they are too obsessed with technology. Although technology provides an easier way to communicate and gives instant-gratification, technology has negatively influenced teenager's social interactions because it removes them from reality, hinders our…

I find that being a teenager living in a first world country in the 21st century, it is nearly impossible to not be reliant on technology. Our whole life is ran by computers from our ride to school all the way to what makes our coffee in the morning. I find that even if I don't want to, I will never not be reliant on technology. Each and every morning I wake up and turn off my alarm which means the very first thing I do in the morning is use technology, all the way until the last thing I do at night which would either be turning off my lamp from reading a book or finishing an episode on netflix, technology is the first thing I use from when I close my eyes until I open them.…

Technology has grown so much over the years and you can do so much with it now. You can read books, shop, and play games without having to be in contact with others. This limitation of human contact has had a negative effect on people's lives. The reason why it has negative effects on people's lives is because some people never get that fresh air anymore and some people do not know how to act around others. Since technology has grown, several people are less likely to leave their houses. Those people who get so caught up in the Internet world never want to leave their homes and go out into the real world. In our generation, children would rather play video games than go outside and ride bikes. It is not all children that do this but it is most of the children and…

In a nutshell, kids are getting really stupid. An American child is six times more likely to know who won American Idol than the name of the Speaker of the House. Technology was supposed to set us free, to do great things and to think great thoughts; instead, kids are abusing technology to do even more mundane, time-consuming tasks. Kids can easily pull up answers to their homework and not learn anything thanks to technology. Kids are not learning anything by doing this.…

Technology has evolved immensely during the past few decades. It’s everywhere, and everyone uses it; technology is a necessity of life. It lights homes, makes transportation easy, makes research simple, and entertains. Although it has many benefits, technology also has negative side effects. Phones and TVs have become a major distraction from everyday things like students’ homework, adults’ work, and driving. There are hundreds of car accidents caused by texting and driving. Furthermore, technology is addicting- society has become too dependent on it. A day without iPhones would probably be almost impossible for some. The next generation is being raised amongst all of this technology, and they aren’t being taught like the past generations were. Will this result in catastrophe later? Technology is a wonderful thing. It has enabled us to do things that in the past were unimaginable to do. Technology these days has evolved a lot and it has changed our life for the better and for the worst. Denying the fact that teenagers spend too much time on their mobile phones and computers will be an injustice. It will be like lying to ourselves. Being a teenager myself, I willingly admit to the fact that we do spend too much time on our technologies. We cannot help it; with time, incredible inventions have mastered to better our lives and being born in the new generation, the youth have quickly adapted to the changes, particularly the teenagers. While others think this habit is full of catches, it has got its perks as well.…
