As a student time management is essential to keep a healthy equilibrium. All forms of time management begin with planning an adequate schedule. Moreover, the general argument made by author Sandra Jennings in her piece “Time management” indicates the rough shift for High school students transitioning to becoming freshman’s in college. More specifically, the balance between needs, desire and obligations. She writes “…importance of responsibility and the consequences for actions….”. As a student is vital to find the right balance to be able to succeed, additionally, to maintain a healthy mind and body.…
Bullying, an unfortunate but seemingly common human activity, has scattered itself through societies since the beginning of time. Today we experience the overwhelming attention bullying has garnered. With attention come questions. Is this attention warranted or exaggerated? Why? Many believe this attention is exaggerated but considering the cause and effect of bullying, the attention is definitely warranted and not exaggerated. On another note, taking action towards young children/adults accused of bullying as a crime is not appropriate. The attention for bullying is warranted because of the tragic effects and it’s continued widespread through technology, but that doesn’t mean these young, innocent children should be punished as criminals due to their youth and level of maturity.…
Work and leisure have a long history together at the opposite ends of the lifestyle spectrum. Work is an activity which carries a sense of obligation, is necessary for self maintenance and constitutes an external motivation. Leisure, on the other hand, is free time that is not driven by duty which nourishes the health and happiness of the person, with an aim on rejuvenation and relaxation from hard…
Leisure is subjective. It means different things to different people. Leisure can be defined as ‘unobligated time, as discretionary time to use in relatively freely chosen ways, when the obligations of work and sustenance have been met,’ this definition applies to an industrialised society where work is the centre of peoples lives (Haywood, 1989, p.3). Leisure can also be defined as ‘a range of activities in which people choose to participate during their free time’ (Haywood, 1989, p. 4). These activities that people choose to participate in are wide ranging for example, sport, dancing, gambling, drinking and shopping and depend on the person’s interests and personal preferences with regards to relaxation. People’s attitude towards leisure and the activities participated in have changed over time due to a large amount of factors. The introduction of the eight hour work day in 1856 and the implementation of the Saturday half-holiday in Australia increased the amount of leisure time available. Advances in technology also changed the activities participated in, such as, the cinema.…
The student may have to learn the concept of delayed gratification and put off some of the fun activities that they once enjoyed because they had a surplus of time before starting their degree program. The student must prioritize what is most important to them and their family. A balance must be found in regards to spending enough time with family and friends while devoting enough time to their…
In current research, the majority of people find difficult to balance their study and personal time and assess their…
Americans today tend to believe that college is four years of partying and fun while earning a degree, and there is validity in that belief, but one must also include the four years of learning and hard work. One benefit of college is all of the fun activities that there are to take part in. These activities that college students take part in give the students two important things in life: stress management abilities and connections. Students work hard all week and then finally get the chance to relax and do something they enjoy on the weekends. That “down time” is spent relaxing, and trying to figure out a non-stressful way to complete all homework and projects and still go out for fun. The stress management relates to time management, as students want to do work in a logical time frame that keeps life easy. These two skills relate to life after college because once someone has a job they have to manage the stress of the job and complete tasks in a timely manner. On May 16, 2011, Paul Taylor and his research team from Pew Social…
Individuals choose their leisure activities in a relationship with their needs. Leisure also has the role to reduce mental stress and induce a stage of relaxation. Stress can be reduced by a series of relaxing activities, which will in the end disconnect individual from the mental obstacles they have to face. People design their leisure time as to feel better and gain forces to continue working. Meeting friends, reading a good book, attend cultural events; all these activities reduce the daily stress we all…
May & Petgen (1960) refer to leisure as the surplus of time that remains after we have taken care of life’s necessities, such as work, or any other obligated task. This can be seen as the…
Student Life Redefined Indisputable in today’s civilization, it has become unmistakable that the equilibrium of time spent on students’ social, emotional, physical, and academic life is categorically corrupted—an overload of assignments and activities for students often causes a lack of energy and inadequate spare time, many times leading to superabundant stress. Steven Guzman, a twelve year old, runs the same routine every day: He wakes up, goes to school, does homework, and sleeps, with no time for anything else but to eat. The author goes on giving solid information from examinations about extended school hours and time tired out from sports. Students pretty much experience the same time crunch as their parents. Additionally, nearly all children are now also losing free or play time, which could cause harmful effects in the future.…
School can consume our daily life. Do one thing at a time, divide your time between daily schoolwork and other responsibilities outside of school. Doing too much at once can be daunting. Can’t say “no”. This arises from a wish to please everyone and suggests a failure to define what’s really important. Simplify your goals. Decide what you need to do and can do, and say” no” to whatever interferes. (Yager, 2003) There are a multitude of factors that contribute to time management. We can waste time by watching TV, texting, checking e-mails, surfing the web, playing games or hanging out with friends. It is not a constructive way to use time. These factors can also be attributed to procrastination. Time management and procrastination go hand in…
I do not usually put much thought into how I spend my time, but now that I have seen how few hours are actually in a day I will try to put more thought into my daily activities. I want to make every minute count and I don’t want to let a second go to waste. This time log has helped me see what I spend the majority of my time on and has made me realize that I need to put more of my focus on academic work and less of it on my friends. I can also put more attention on my overall health and should make more time for exercising so that I stay healthy which will also help me focus better on my studies. A good way to make sure that my time dedicated to school work is used effectively is to go to the library or a quiet space during that time so that I can get the most done…
As a student, I am quite busy on weekdays. However, at weekends, I have much free time, so I usually spend it on relaxing to prepare for a coming busy week. First of all, in my free time, I like playing some sports, such as soccer, badminton or basketball, with my friends. Sport not only makes me stronger but also connects me with my friends who have the same hobbies. We sometimes go riding in order that we can combine sporting activity and sightseeing. If the weather is not fine enough for me to hang out with my friends, I like to read books. I have a big bookshelf with many kinds of books but I prefer science books. Through these books, my knowledge is gradually enlarged. Thirdly, I also love to listen to music from pop, rock 'n roll to rap or melody. I can listen to music at any place with a small but modern Ipod which is my father's gift for my 18th birthday. Sometimes, I dance freely when listening to my favorite songs. Music really paints my life. Last but not least, I spend my free time on surfing on Internet. I can chat with my friends from very far distance or log on websites to read online news. With Internet, I update many things without having to go anywhere. I can also study English through some interesting websites. (If I have very difficult exercises and cannot solve them by myself, I will visit Google Answers and have somebody to help me. Just like this one ^^). In conclusion, I want to use all of my free time to relax and connect with other…
