However, the narration is very unreliable and it stands as very biased and personal due to the use of subjective adjectives as the quotation above indicates. During the plot it becomes very clear that the protagonist cares more about his store than his family, which is indicated in the quotation above and in the following quotation:” and your own flesh and blood, will try to run over you”. Unequivocally, he is full of mistrust towards mankind in general and only believes in his store. Moreover, he also expresses that he would sell his house should his family leave him. Simply, the protagonist is everything a frontiersman should be and he epitomizes the American values, but it is ironically evident that the individualistic pursuit of his own American Dream only constitutes to the basis of an incoherent and self-destructive society where everyone does what benefits them the most without adhering to authority.
