Weaknesses of Education System

From an early age, we have been told that education is the key to one’s success in life. Many people have a misconception of the purpose of education. The purpose of education is to enable us to become more efficient, to achieve with increasing facility the legitimate goals of our life and to be a better person. Unfortunately, there are flaws in our current education system.
One of the significant weaknesses in the system is the ranking system. Students are ranked each year among their grade and placed in classes from the highest score students to the lowest score students. The rational is to facilitate teaching when students attend classes only with students whose overall academic achievement is the same as their own. This may be a good idea to those who excel in their studies, but it isn’t fair to the other students. Some teachers typically have higher expectations for students with higher grade and lower expectations for students with lower grade, which would affect the self-image of students. If there is no ranking system, students with higher grade will be able to help out those with lower grade during group work. Every student will be treated fairly without the limitation of their grades.
Another problem of the education system is the huge amount of school works being assigned to the students each day. Students are required to do more homework instead of learning more. After spending 6 hours in school, they still need 3 to 4 hours in order to finish the homework given. Homework is good for the students, but too much homework does not make the students smarter, in fact, it is taking the time away from them to study and to do other outdoor activities. Even though they still have time for other activities, they will be too exhausted to go for it. Homework should be given to the students, but the amount given should not be too much to handle by the students.
