The Spanish conquistadors were successful in their battles against the inhabitants of the New World largely due to the native disunity among the various tribes of Mexico. Local tribes had differing political, religious, and cultural beliefs, and often waged wars against each other. As a result, an enemy’s enemy often became an ally, as evidenced in Cortes’ alliance with the Tlaxcalteca group. Tlaxcalteca was an enemy of Cholula, and members in the Traxcalteca community “brought certain rumors to Cortes, so that he would destroy [the Cholula]” (40). When the Spaniards heard this, they were “guided and accompanied by the Tlaxcaltecas… and they marched in battle array.” Tribes which allied with Cortes provided rations, man power, and information of the New World which significantly helped Cortes on his conquest in the New World. Hence, Spaniards were able to achieve success in their war efforts largely because of their alliances with other Native American tribes.…
In “Just Take Away Their Guns,” by James Q. Wilson, Collins Professor of Management and Public Policy at the University of California at Los Angeles, the author shows what is wrong with each side of the argument. In the first paragraph, he says, “The president wants still tougher gun control legislation and thinks it will work” (Barnet and Bedau 124). But, he continues on to say how this will not affect the illegal use of guns. About 200 million privately own a gun and one-third of that 200 million own a handgun (Barnet and Bedau 124). Only two percent of the citizens are using them in unlawful acts (Barnet and Bedau 124). The number of people who defend themselves outnumbers the amount of arrests for crimes committed. There are many issues with gun control, such as, whether a citizen should be able to own a gun or not, law enforcement confiscations, and punishment for criminals who use guns.…
The claim of this essay is that in the debates of gun control logic has lost out in the past and is currently losing out. This article describes the difficulties and rationale of both sides of the gun control debate. The author talks about how a proposal in 1978 would have manufacturers, wholesalers, and send purchase reports to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The idea was that creating such a database would allow for instantaneous tracing of guns found at crime scenes, and potentially track sales of firearms to the illegal gun market.…
A June 2013, reports of the Institute of Medicine claim that "most all firearms utilized as a part of criminal acts enter dissemination by means of starting legitimate exchange. “Somewhere around 2005 and 2010, 1.4 million firearms were stolen from US homes amid property violations, a yearly normal of 232,400.Ian Ayres, JD, PhD, and John J. Donohue, JD, PhD, Educators of Law at Yale Graduate school and Stanford Graduate school separately, state, "with weapons being an item that can be effortlessly diverted and rapidly sold at a moderately high portion of the underlying cost, the nearness of more firearms can really serve as a boost to robbery and burglary. Regardless of the fact that the firearm proprietor had a grant to convey a covered weapon…
The Mexican war was a war worth fighting for a few reason. The first key reason that we should have fought this war is that it was in the best interest of the country at the time and the many people in the U.S. believed in manifest destiny which was the belief that the expansion of the U.S. was justified and important. Another reason that this war would have been justified is that at the time was that mexico was a fairly new country. They had only gained independence from spain about 20 years before the mexican war. The U.S. didn’t think that Mexico was capable of controlling the amount of land that they claimed as theirs. It said in Document A that, “Mexico never can exert any real government over such a country” A third reason that this…
There are many interesting weapons in Aztec history. They used many different weapons, including clubs, atlatls, bows, Macuahuitl, spears, lances, and slings. The Macuahuitl is a very strange sword which has jagged edges along the edges. Spaniards used to claim, “ ...It could cut off a head of a horse in one swipe.” It was very useful to the Aztecs because the Spaniards all had armor, and the sword would make a jagged cut through it. Then, they can continue using the Macuahuitl or another weapon as they slaughtered their enemies.…
The Mexican War marked a major turning point for the fledgling American nation and its military – not only did it redefine the Southern border with Mexico, but it demonstrated the capabilities of the U.S. Army during an offensive engagement following a prolonged period of peace. The Mexican War is not a commonly cited conflict in U.S. history, but the lessons learned from it are relevant even today, as it combined conventional warfare with the struggle of being a small, occupying force in both rural and urban terrain. The U.S. won a number of early decisive battles, notably at Palo Alto, the site of the first major conflict. American success during the Battle of Palo Alto was owed largely to competent leadership, standardized training, and the superiority of American field artillery.…
For years, people in the United States of America have been allowed to own firearms. This was a right given to them by the constitution, and if the person met all the requirements for a gun. But, within the last couple of years people who are not legally allowed to own a gun in the United States have found different ways in which to obtain one. Some ways in which people are able get guns appears to be perfectly legal, but when looked at closely it can be seen that this way of purchasing is not so legal. The ways in which people are able to illegally obtain guns is through gun shows, private sellers and the black market.…

In response to an article titled (Gun Debate: Where Is the Middle Ground?) written by Mallory Simon, writer and senior producer of online presentations for the Cable News Network (CNN) on January 31, 2013, the argument can be presented that “Guns don’t kill people, people do.” The article highlighted the common topic of gun control. In that phrase alone it is proposed that somehow guns have a mind of their own and can somehow control themselves. The author presents the proposal that somehow there may be a common ground in maintaining the use and sanction of guns in our country by creating a medium of strict public policy in the form of background checks and security. It is with strong supported evidence that an attempt will be made to argue that the power to control the illegal, malicious and careless use of guns is to limit the power of people to obtain them with a…

Did you know that in the United States almost 100,000 people are shot or killed with a gun in one year? Ten thousand, five hundred and twenty-seven people die a year in handgun related incidents in the United States. This number, by far, outweighs the number of gun related deaths in countries such as Sweden, Great Britain, and Japan, which number thirteen, twenty-two, and eighty-seven, respectively. What is the reason for such drastic differences in numbers? Sweden, Great Britain, and Japan are all countries that have stricter gun control laws than the US. Mind you, these are just the number of deaths caused by handgun related incidents; however, that isn’t counting the thousands of deaths caused by other types of firearms; in one year, around thirty-thousand Americans die in gun violence. If the US adopted stricter gun control laws, the number of deaths would drop accordingly. Restricting the right to bear arms will undoubtedly make any community safer.…
The DEA faces a great issue in preventing and ending the war on drugs. Wood states, “Mexico, a country all too familiar with violence as a way of life, is today a stark example of how crackdowns on drug cartels by American and local law enforcement agencies have utterly failed” (Wood, 2010, ¶ 7). Drugs, violence, and guns are the main influence to a never-ending drug war. The war created by the United States by demand of drugs has been a major issue for the government and citizens of the United States. The United States have declared that it is doing its best to combat the war on drugs. The drug problem has not stopped and the people continue to buy drugs no matter what circumstances they are obtained. With drugs prices rising, people are willing do anything to get drugs even if it leads them to become involved in criminal activities such as robbery.…

On one year’s average “More than 100,000 people die in America with a gun” (Brady campaign). People who keep guns justify…
