Task 1

Evidence of planning through storyboarding as part of the pre-design work (P2.1)

Homepage

For the colour theme of my site I have decided on the use of ‘baby blue’ and ‘white’. On my homepage (above) I will be keeping text short and sweet with images displaying some of my products and clever witty introductions to attract users to my site. I have went for the ‘less is more’ approach in the sense that the layout is not crammed with information but more so that it is laid out effectively so that each area can attract attention, whether it be my links, Sign In / Register or Search.

Sign In / Register Log In

My Sign In / Register page will have the same basic layout as the Homepage and the exact same use of colours. I will have this page liked to my Homepage so that both Signing In and Registering can be easily accessed. I will need all necessary information for a new user to sign up with the site as stated above. When the user logs in successfully they will be re-directed to the homepage to continue browsing. An admin staff member will be re-directed to the ‘Admin Homepage’.

Similar to the previous style and layout of the previous pages, nothing will change much. The only difference here is that there is a ‘Log Out’ option with a message displaying ‘Welcome User. You are now logged in.’

The internet home page gives the user a brief description of the company and some contact information. There is a list of some of the products Riordan supplies, but that is it; it is just a list. There is no description of the items. No links that takes the user to pictures of the items. No links that takes users and/or customers to an ordering catalog or even an on-line ordering system. The only upside to the home page is that they have three pictures and a banner that makes the page somewhat bearable.…

The application allows the registered users to customize their own home page using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and JavaScript. Additionally, users can link up with groups of friends, business associates, family, and classmates. So instead of linking with people individually, a person links to a “group.” When someone is linked to a group, the person has direct link access to each person in the group. Each user has the option to display no personal information to non linked groups, or to allow their name, hometown, occupation, interests, and photos to be available to everyone. In fact, making information available to everyone is the default…

The most prominent feature of your design should be the navigation. In order to ensure that a reader can easily find the navigation bar, it is usually located across the top of the page. For instance, in the following figure, we show the navigation toolbar for MIT’s website. Aside from covering the bottom of the screen, it is also scattered all the way from the left side of the screen to the right. On the home page, the only view the user is able to get is of the navigation bar. From there, the user is able to go to different section of the university; for such large universities, this view is known as the grid view. In our case, each user is able to see our website differently. For example, students will see a website strictly for students and professors will see one for them while the staff members will see an entirely different one. From the home page, each user will be navigated to a separate log in page. This page will either allow the user to…

Web browsers are the gateway to the cyber space. You must own a browser on your computer in order to browse any page on the Internet. What then, you may ask, are web browsers? A web browser (or “browser”, for short) is any computer program or application that is responsible for launching a computer user onto the Internet or a simple area network like the Local Area Network (LAN) at home, office or within any geographical location where such a connection is established; whether wireless or direct connection. If you ever checked your mails on a computer, or read some news headlines from a newspaper website, then you must have used a browser in your life. Web browsers today are of course a component of a branded new system, especially the popular Microsoft Internet Explorer which comes packaged into the Windows operating system. In fact, “mini” browsers are also found in most of today’s mobile phones and other portable devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs) and the like. Some browsers can be downloaded for free, like Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Google Chrome, while others are owned for a fee; directly or indirectly. An example is the Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.…
