Week 2 Discussion
It is noted in this week’s lesson that the success of a project comes from the contribution of many different people or stakeholders. As it is indicated in our text “working successfully in these new project-oriented organizations requires that project managers and project team members recognize the different people who define and influence the work environment, understand their unique roles, and know how to work with these people to create the greatest chances for successfully completing projects” (Portny, Mantel, Meredith, “Shafer, Sutton, & Kramer, 2008, p. 60). Mohammadreza (2008) acknowledges “stakeholders as individuals and organizations that are actively involved in the works, or whose interests may be affected as a result of works execution or completion” (p. 1). We look at these stakeholders as those who need to be regarded in accomplishing project goals and whose participation and support are vital to the project success. “Stakeholders include anyone who will be affected by a project or anyone who can manipulate it” (Johnston, 2013). According to Duff (2013) “every project has diverse groups of stakeholders.” However, we find that stakeholders can have either a positive or negative effect on a project. The concern is those who have a negative impact on the project. It is noted that diverse types of stakeholders are engaged in a variety of ways in the many stages of the project, from collecting and providing information, to discussion, exchange of ideas, collaboration, and alliance. Full participation of stakeholders is needed in both project design and implementation is order to promote success. Therefore, it is vital to identify all the stakeholders who could hinder the progress of a project. “The best way to handle the potential negative influence of stakeholders on a project is to identify all potential stakeholders, all potential problems associated with those stakeholder groups and take steps to settle the problems prior to planning the project”

The recent proposal by a board director that approval be given to use their title when calling personal potential clients presents a significant ethical concern for Energy Cooperative. Allowing a board member to use their title for personal gain contradicts several ethical theories, to include Mill’s utilitarian theory, Kant’s categorical imperative, and the rights approach to ethical decision-making (Kaplan eGuide, 2011, pp 5-6). Board members are self-employed consultants with no loyalty to any particular company and this action would allow them the opportunity to appropriate potential clients meant for the Energy Cooperative. Furthermore, using their title to secure a business relationship is a conflict of interest should the client’s initial intention is to become a member of Energy Cooperative.…

    > All societies are based on beliefs, the strongest of which are religious in one form or another. Even the American Indians could be described as religious in their beliefs of rain dances and war songs of the past. Most cultures are deeply rooted in the past; it is the history of all life that makes people who they are. Plainchant serves as the music of Catholicism, Baptist hymns, Buddhist temple chants, Eastern Indian monophonic music, even New Orleans death march all serve as sacred music to the people that perform them. In whatever form, it is not just the sacred chants that prevail but also the stories that they tell and the message that they send.…

Chapter 1 of your textbook includes, on page 9, Table 1.1, “Managing Change: Some Lessons from the Four Stories.” Review the four “lessons” (bullet points) on the table, and think about what some of the key “learning points” you gleaned about change from these stories. Then, do one of two things:1. Post the top three learning points you gleaned from the stories, and include how the stories for change helped you learn these points, or2. Research one of the four companies and see how or if that company has since changed (yet more) since the time of the book’s publication. How did that recent change fit with or not fit in with the “lessons” that the textbook mentions the company “learned” from their original set of changes? Explain what you find (bring the URL of the research/article you used to help you).Your instructor will follow up with you with additional questions throughout the week to push the learning further. Feel free to discuss your classmates’ findings and thoughts on these questions with each other as well. Welcome to Week 1…
