Transformational Learning

For this assignment im going to briefly discuss the four stages of the learning cycle. The four stages are recognizing a significant problem, confronting it intensely, finding a solution, and integrating a new perspective and a new set of assumptions that fits into your everyday life pattern. The first stage im going to talk about is recognizing a significant problem. Whenever you are applying this in your own life you have to start by figuring out what it is. The next one you need to do is to talk with someone so they can help you solve it.

The second stage that im going to talk about is confronting it intensely. Whenever you do this your going to have to stay calm. At first it may be hard sometimes cause your might be having a difficult time in your life, so it will make things intense to talk about it. Eventually it will work out, so when you are confronting it intensely there might be argueing and fighting at each other, and other times there might not be. It will get better as life goes on cause you will have it figured out.

In this third paragraph im going to talk about the third stage of the learning cycle, which is finding a solution. Whenever you do this you have to figure out what the problem is, and then sit down and start finding the solution, and write it down. After you do that try working it out with your friends or family that you might have a problem with. Then once you do that you will feel better after you have found a solution to whatever problem you might of had. So hopefully your problems will be solved with your friends or family again.

For this last paragraph of the four stages, im going to talk about how integrating a new perspective and a new set of assumptions fits into your life patterns. Integrating a new perspective means finding a problem or pattern in your life, or finding a different story in your life. Also a new set of assumptions means that you need to try and do something differently. For example if someone is arguing how are you going to handle that situation. Another one is figuring out the situation and work on it.

A transformational learning experience for me would have to be when my grandma and grandpa Rose died. When i was little i would always go over there and visit. Every year they would buy me Christmas and birthday gifts. They would cook lunch and dinner, i loved their cooking. Also they are the sweetest people you would ever meet, cause they are the type of people that loves to help you out.

As i grew up i never went over there much, im not sure why but i do regret not spending time with them. Once in awhile when i did we would all sit down at the table and play cards. They taught me how to play the game called, “Jackass”. That was the last time i had went there and and spent time with them. When i heard the news that they had died, i broke down and cried cause it was hard on me, since i had never spent time with them while they were sick and getting old.

Just about two to three years ago, they died of health problems They were not taking good care of themselves, they kept going in and out of the hospital. I still have a hard time, but one good thing that i got out of it was i got their electric cook stove. So thats the transformational learning experience that i had. The phase that i experienced would have to be recognizing that others have gone through a similiar process.
