Obesity continues to prevail in today's society and overweight individuals have become targets of discrimination. In organizations, the weight of employees has become of great consideration before hiring. Employers foresee the implication cost like an increased insurance premium, paying for special accommodations and increase in absences. It is a serious health concern, and this is one reason why employers avoid hiring obese people. Stigmatization of obese people has serious psychological and social economic consequences. It makes workers less productive, which translate to lower profits for the employer. Some circumstances may force overweight people to be left out; Positions that apply strenuous physical activities like military and firefighters will leave out overweight people. …show more content…
They should incorporate the cultural, social contexts and health of weight bias. Pass new laws and regulations that forbid discrimination based on disability or appearance. Policy makers also need to amend existing legislations so that they recognize overweight or obesity as a disability (Nowrouzi, 2015).Organizations can adopt several methods to help curb weight discrimination. At the work places, state the protection of obese persons with emphasis.
It should be mentioned in onboarding documents and included in job postings. The organization should create a strong framework policy for curbing discrimination while adopting anti-discriminative laws against the offenders. Employees should also receive initial training against harassment and discrimination. Personnel like the human resource should receive training on prejudice against overweight people and be held accountable for their hiring practices. By recognizing and supporting factors that relate to a quality work environment and job satisfaction, individuals can be able to isolate weight bias and hence find solutions to eradicate it in the

    Obesity has been identified in the 21st Century as one of the most serious health epidemics. Being obese is also one of the most preventable diseases today. Several factors contribute to a person becoming overweight: lack of exercise, excessive caloric intake, and genetic heredity. Personally, all three factors contributed to my disease. Overcoming obesity has been one of the greatest learning experiences that I have encountered.     First, stigmatized individuals experience discrimination, either blatant or subtle. Second, in order to experience this discrimination, they must be aware that they are devalued in the eyes of others. The third aspect of social stigma is that stigmatized individuals are likely to be aware of the stereotypes that others hold of their social groups. Finally, they may feel uncertainty about the causes of events in their lives.
