1934- Born on August 5 in Henry County, Kentucky.
Wendell Berry was raised in Newcastle, Kentucky. As a boy he began working on his father’s farm and neighboring farms. As a farmer he learned the benefits of farming.
1956- Earned B.A. in English at the University of Kentucky and then his M.A. a year later.
His schooling expanded his vocabulary and in turn, made him the writer he was known as.
1959- Taught in the English Department at Stanford University.
1962- Goes to teach at New York University.
1963- President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
After the assassination of Kennedy, Berry was inspired to write a poem. This is when Berry was first noticed by the public.
1965- Missed the rural life and returned to Kentucky.
1970’s- Exchanges thoughts with Maurice Telleen.
This is when Wendell Berry really started to appreciate the agrarian way of life.
Wendell Berry is an accomplished writer. His works revolve around agriculture and nature. How did he come to do this with his life? Events and experiences throughout his life inspired him to do what he did and still does. It first started with his childhood working on farms. It then came from his education.
