What were the Advantages and Disadvantages of Nazi Rule for the German People up to 1939?

Nazism seemed to end the effects of the great depression. The German economy had been devastated in 1929 when the great depression happened, but surprisingly, it was looking more prosperous afterwards! In 1938 national income was the highest Germany had seen, which was higher than what Germany had before the great depression by eight billion marks! Although wages had not overtaken the level that wages were at in 1928, industrial and consumer goods were way above the 1928 mark, and employment was almost a million less than what it was in 1928. However, this employment figure is quite controversial because the Nazis threw the Jews out of their jobs, replaced them with German people, and did not account for the Jews in the unemployment figure!

Hitler was an excellent figure head. He was what the German people could look up to and support. He was a very determined man. He excelled at making speeches; he could almost 'brainwash' his audience. Although Hitler a dictator, he gave everyone a sense of purpose. Everyone had a role in their life.

The Nazis brought order and stability to the German people. The people were indoctrinated to obeying instructions strictly and adhering to planning. The importance of order and stability was also drilled into the minds of the young at youth movements. These movements gave everyone a sense of identity. Everything in them was done in a military-like environment.

Standards of living increased after the great depression. During the 1930's, car ownership in Germany trebled. Wages were gradually increasing, unemployment (Jews excepted) was at an all-time low, and there were more industrial and consumer goods than ever!

Numerous worker's organisations such as the Beauty of Labour and the Strength through Joy offered many benefits. Although they were formed to prevent the formation of trade unions and to restrict freedoms of the worker, they were

In my opinion, I believe that the Great Depression was the most significant factor towards the growth of the Nazi Party as this was the time when the Nazi Party grew rapidly from only 12 seats in May 1928 to 107 in September 1930 and became the second largest party in Germany, following after the KPD. This was down to the economic crisis in the aftermath of the Wall Street Crash, which weakened the Weimar Republic by discrediting its policies, consequently making the democratic politics less popular. The government seemed powerless to stop the depression, especially because Stresemann, an influential democratic politician, had died in October 1929. The government knew that they couldn’t print any more money due to the hyperinflation back in 1923 so Chancellors, Muller and Bruning, raised taxes, cut wages and reduced unemployment benefit. However this resulted in the unemployment rate continuing to rise to 6 million by early 1933. The German economy was extremely vulnerable at this point, as they had lost their short-term foreign loans so beggars, bootlace sellers and match sellers preoccupied the streets of Berlin and the government became the ‘scapegoat’ for these economic disasters. There was now less support for the Weimar Republic than ever before and middle class democratic parties associated with the Republic declined and people turned to extremist alternatives such as the Nazis, which led to a rapid increase in votes. Therefore, it is clear to see that the Great Depression was the main reason why the Nazi Party grew between 1929 and 1932.…

Nazism was a form of government unlike any other in history. Lead by Adolf Hitler, the Nazis had distinct beliefs and policies, severe racism and hatred, strong, new family values, and plans for future Germany and the world. The Nazi party came to power in the early 1930s, thanks to Adolf Hitler. Hitler was loved and admired by all of his followers. The Nazis derived many symbols from ancient runes and made code names for things like their concentration camps. They also formed several new laws and restrictions. Racist beliefs and violent actions were all part of everyday life in Nazi Germany. Concentration camps killed millions of people using gas chambers and firing squads. The Jewish race was considered inferior, and therefore extremely and harshly discriminated against by law. Family values were encouraged, education was reformed, the women's roles were outlined, the Aryan race was to be the only race, and law controlled breeding. Education was reformed in order to benefit the state, not the individual. The woman's main role was to bear children, cook, and clean. The Aryan race was the only "superior" race, so therefore Hitler wanted to have all Aryan citizens. Only the elite would reproduce and inferior races were restricted from breeding with the superior race. Hitler had several plans for his new Germany and for the world as well. Hitler wanted leaders in Germany. He also wanted to control what everyone saw and heard to maintain a working state. The youth of the world was to be under Nazi control, and Europe and Russia were to be conquered. Approximately eleven million people died as a result of the Nazis. The Nazis were one of the most racist forms of government ever.…

Firstly, it had a bad economic impact on Germany because it had resulted in many groups of people to suffer, such as businessmen, young people, farmers, factory workers and this caused many people to lose their job which was terrible because it was also extremely difficult to actually get a job in itself. So difficult that even new university graduates could not get easily employed. By 1932, 40% of all factory workers were unemployed. During this stage, the government had decided to cut the unemployment benefit in order to save money, but all it did was simply worsen things for people. The government had to pay more unemployment benefit, but they just couldn’t afford it. So they chose to increase tax along with the cut of benefits which led on to the economic policies becoming extremely unpopular.…
