Katrin Jomaa is offering a course that talks about the issue of Western misconceptions regarding Islam. She is Lebanese, Muslim and wants to teach students about this topic because Muslims and people of Islamic faith are often portrayed in a negative way. A group
of people that might compromise the audience would be people who are against Muslims due to sterotyping or media. Jomma would probably respond by saying that this is why she is teaching this class to teach you about the misconceptions and after you can have your own judgement.
A problem that women face is abortion, many people have views for or against it. I would say that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her body, while someone else might disagree saying that she has to have the baby. My audience would be people who are both for or against abortion. Using rhetoric maybe the people against abortion, would change their mind. I would like the people to be more open minded and understand where women are coming from.
We are capable of being influenced by the language of someone else by how the they present themselves and show evidence about a certain topic. I think that people are capable of implementing change if the show the facts because you can’t argue with facts. You can influence those who can make change, but that doesn’t mean it will occur. If you give them valid evidence about a problem, they might create a change.
