The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is a memoir relaying the young life of the author as she struggles to live through poverty with her family. As he gradually ages throughout the book, Jeannette has to face the hardships of a normal growing girl while also facing problems that go on behind closed doors. Walls gives the reader hard-to-read tales of growing up, acting as a parent figure to her younger siblings due to neglect, and trying to keep the family financially stable. At the same time, as she ages and becomes more mature, she tries to break free from her familial roots and move to New York. Once it seems like Jeannette and her siblings have their chance to get out and move to New York, their parents follow them there and decided to live on the streets without a home. This two hundred and eighty eight page book is a truly inspiring and astonishing memoir. This book was published in 2005 and has spent more than three years on the New York Times bestseller list. This book would be great for high school students for many reasons. For one high school students aren’t exposed to memoirs very often. Thomas Wolsey was Henry's most important minister early in his reign. Wolsey became Archbishop of York in late 1514, was created a cardinal of the Catholic Church the following November, and became Lord Chancellor of the realm in December 1515. Wolsey achieved singular stature in these offices. Since Henry was not so interested in administration as his minister, Wolsey took over many of the duties of kingship, overseeing England's finances and diplomatic relations with other European powers. Henry became extremely dependent on Wolsey, whose zeal and ability as an administrator made him indespensable. Henry VIII is born in June of 1491 to Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. Being the second born son of this time he is considered to be the spare, while his older brother Arthur will be the heir to the throne. Since Henry is the not as important second born son there are very poor records of his upbringing and education. With this is mind it might be safe to assume a very common practice for this period of time would have taken place. This practice would be that of forcing the spare into the church with the hopes that they would become a high-ranking church official. The Play King Henry V was set in England in the early fifteenth century. King Henry IV has died, and his son, the young King Henry V, has just assumed the throne. Henry lays claim to certain parts of France, based on his distant roots in the French royal family and on a very technical interpretation of ancient land laws. When the young prince, or Dauphin, of France sends Henry an insulting message in response to these claims, Henry decides to invade France. The climax of this war comes at the famous Battle of Agincourt, at which the English are outnumbered by the French five to one. The night before the battle, King Henry disguises himself as a common soldier and talks to many of the soldiers in his camp. Sometime later, peace negotiations are finally worked out: Henry will marry Catherine, the daughter of the French king. Catherine’s Palace is located just south of St. Petersburg, Russia; it shows the beauty, wealth, extravagance, and power of Imperial Russia. The palace is Russia’s own Versailles. The palace itself shows its uniqueness by the use of its many different colors, the gold accents, and its grand pillars which are scattered throughout the entire palace exterior.
