Despite whatever hand in life we are dealt, the question of whether or not this life is beautiful should never be a difficult one to answer. As human beings, we have the innate ability to make our own choices. The decisions we make in life, no matter how big or how small, can define who we are as people. When one chooses to cheat, no matter the context, he or she is immediately robbing themselves of their potential. Anyone can choose to cheat. One could cheat at any moment of any day throughout their entire lives. It isn't difficult, in fact, it's much easier than being honest half the time. However, those of us with the courage and integrity to work for the fruits of our labor in an honest manner, will be the ones who reach true happiness in life. When someone cheats, they not only run the risk of hurting themselves, but they also run the risk of hurting those close to them. Nearly twenty years ago, I had the opportunity to meet Alex Rodriguez. He was only 19 years old at the time and still very young in his Major League Baseball career. Back then, he was an honest ball player who's goal had finally been accomplished from hard work and dedication to his craft. Over the years Rodriguez would face a number of tough life decisions that would shape his future forever. His decision to cheat destroyed his name and credibility. A vibrant young ball player who had his entire life ahead of him would later become the laughing stock of the Major Leagues. While Rodriguez knew what he was doing was wrong, he failed to think of the consequences that would result from his actions. Though it may be difficult to sympathize with Rodriguez's situation, it is the exact same situation that we are faced with when we choose to be dishonest. Whether its taking an illegal performing enhancing drug or cheating in any other aspect of life, you sell yourself short and risk the hardships that could potentially effect both you and the ones you love. Some would argue that cheating

Critics view this literary work as an attempt to cash in on a highly controversial and ethical issue. Jose Canseco is characterized as bitter, and angered for having been pushed to the side by the league, owners, and players. His unchanged opinion on the use of steroids and his “irrational” believe that the use of steroids is beneficial, makes critics become furious and they claim Jose Canseco made the allegations to not gain respect or credibility, but to drag down many others with him to include Major league Baseball. The former rookie of the year who was the first player in history to hit…

In William Moller’s essay, he talks about how he abused Ritalin to help him with his studies. He also talks about baseball players and their use of steroids. Two things that comes to mind whenever people say the name Barry Bonds is the most homeruns ever hit in a players major league career and the use of steroids. As we all know or at least should know Barry Bonds is the all-time leader in homeruns with 762 in his career. It only took Bonds 22 years to hit those 762. Most players are luck to hit 500 in that amount of time. Questions began to rise when Bonds was not only breaking records but putting stats up such as. Although 1998 belonged to Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire who are also players that took steroids to have an explosive season setting records in homeruns in a season and slugging percentage. Bonds in 2001 emerged hitting 73 homeruns in one season, which happens to be an MLB record. Bonds said that he was not satisfied with breaking the single season he wanted to set records in everything. Barry Bonds went on to do so that season setting records for slugging percentage by slugging .863 and setting the record for homeruns per at bat with 6.52. Not only the stats but just by him saying that he wants to set records in everything is enough to tell you that a player is willing to do anything to set those records, even if it is cheating and taking steroids. What is a record if you had to cheat to get it? Well finally the MLB looked into Barry Bonds…

Unless you are a Yankee's Fan, what you likely know about A-Rod, Alex Rodriguez, is that he hits a lot of home runs, but that his records are under scrutiny since he was using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) while he was hitting them. As a result, he had to sit out an entire baseball season and forfeit millions of dollars in salary and millions more in record bonuses including a $6 million bonus for tying Willie Mays career 660 home run mark.…

A relationship is meant for two people only, but some can’t seem to count. In today’s society, there are more people being unfaithful to their mate everyday as if they were never committed to them, and that is just selfish. Cheating does not only affect someone emotionally, but also physically. The pain after a breakup from cheating can make a person have a negative outlook about being in a committed relationship, and this can also stop them from being happy with someone who can not only be a good candidate for them, but also faithful and loyal to them. When I felt like cheating, I would always talk with my dad. He always said, “If you are unhappy, leave that person completely alone, done cheat on them”. (B. Robinson) He was…

Elliott epitomizes everything you want to do when it comes to emotion with his chosen topic. There is not one person who does not feel sympathy or judgment upon a professional athlete who publicly confesses to abusing steroids. Elliot quotes, “A scandal makes headlines only when it involves a star, and professional athletes are stars whose income and status most people can only envy” (644). He goes on to state that when athletes fail, “...fans revel in it” (644). Everyone should remember when newspapers reported that Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants and Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees were being accused of using steroids. They both lost hundreds of fans and had cheated their ways to the top. As time will tell, they will feel the effects and see the symptoms of their misuse of substances if they have not already. So one can conclude that when athletes fall, they are either remembered for their great achievements and records or for that one major failure. So Elliott smacks a home-run for the emotional…

Canseco released another book, Vindicated, about his frustrations in the aftermath of the publishing of Juiced. In it, he discusses his belief that Alex Rodriguez also used steroids. The claim was eventually proven true with Rodriguez's admission in 2009, just after his name was leaked as being on the list of 103 players who tested positive for banned substances in Major League Baseball. As of July 2013, Alex Rodriguez was again under investigation for using banned substances provided by Biogenesis of America. He was ultimately suspended for the entirety of the 2014 season.…

Mariano mentions players that have used performance enhancing substances and describes his feelings about how the use of these substances disgraces the game and the players who take them. This is a very controversial topic in sports today and has grown to be a more prominent topic of discussion over the course of history. Although Mariano does criticize cheating in professional sports I think he did not do a great job of discussing some of his teammates involvement with performance enhancing drugs such as Alex Rodriguez. He even defends his teammates at points throughout the story after previously stating his opinion on the use of performance enhancing substances. However, he does explain that he is very loyal to his teammates, and he will never turn his back on them even though he may not agree with some decisions they…

Major League Baseball is one of the most known sports for the use of steroids in its players. Not many people were aware of how many professional baseball players were using steroids until BALCO, Bay Area Lab Cooperative, came out with a policy banning steroids in 1991. “During the BALCO steroid scandal, allegations that top baseball and football players had used illegal performance enhancing drugs were brought to light. Major League Baseball had an established steroid policy which was created in 2002” (Baseball Steroid Suspensions 1). Offenses for using these performance-enhancing drugs include a 50 game ban for the first offense, 100 game ban for the second offense and lifetime ban, with the possibility for reinstatement, for the third positive test (“Steroids and Major League Baseball 3”). There should not be a first, second, and third chance to be able to play baseball again, once a player has cheated and used steroids. Once a player is caught taking the steroids once, that player should be immediately kicked out of the MLB. It would make players think twice before even attempting the drug, especially knowing they can get tested any time.…

Trustworthiness is an asset that is difficult to come by in the world we live in today. Ever since I was brought up as a little girl, I have been taught to be honest in all my dealings. Cheating is against the standards I set for myself, because I try to respect those that I know and am close with. To me, when somebody does something dishonest, I see that as disrespect. The last thing I would want to do is offend somebody by disrespecting them.…
