What A Fairytale 'How Jack Did To Seek His Fortune'
By definition, a fairytale “is a fictional story with folklore characters.” A fairytale may also contain talking animals as they did in this particular story. This story contains at least five folklore characters that process some human traits. In this case, the dog, cat, goat, bull, and rooster are all folklore characters. The genre of “How Jack went to seek his fortune” is a fairytale. I don’t feel this story will fit into any of the other genres.

2. What is the exposition of the story? Summarize it in your own words and provide an example of the text.
The exposition in this story would be Jack making the decision to go out and seek his fortune and when he actually set out to accomplish that decision. At the beginning of the fairytale Jack has decided he will seek his fortune and take the necessary action to get it done by actually taking the journey, “one morning he started to go and seek his fortune.” This is the beginning of the action in this story. As he continued along his way, other characters joined him on this quest.

3. What is the rising action or actions in this story? What make this the rising action, in your opinion? …show more content…
In “How Jack went to seek his fortune,” the rising action takes place as the characters approach the farmhouse just as evening approaches and everyone has started to get tired and exhausted from a long day and started to look for some place to sleep. The day was coming to an end and it was getting dark out, “they went on till it was about dark and they began to think of some place where they could spend the night.” The rising action continues as they notice robbers inside the house.
