Jazz. The style of music that just makes you want to dance. The blues, a kind of music that makes you want to cry. The 20’s were famous for great jazz and blues entertainers such as Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and George Gershwin. The most famous of all though is Duke Ellington.

The Duke as he is also known as is a Jazz legend. Ellington is a pianist, a composer and a bandleader. The Duke started playing professionally at the age of 17 and four years later was already playing in Broadway nightclubs. One of these nightclubs was the famous Cotton Club. He is also a bandleader, film star and comedian, trumpeter and singer. One of his most famous songs is “What a Wonderful Word” and it truly was a wonderful word of jazz in the 1920’s.
Great Reads
A lot of people were out partying in the 1920’s but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t sit down and read some good books. F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and Gertrude Stein all have written great reads.
Ernest Hemingway’s books include The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway served in the military and fought in World War 1. Ernest also mentored Gertrude Stein and met with other famous authors.
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s most famous book is The Great Gatsby. “Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy” -Fitzgerald.

He picked a lightweight plane and removed anything not absolutely necessary to flight to lighten it further. He loaded the “Spirit of St. Louis” with 450 gallons of fuel and took off on May 20, 1927. He spent 33 hours fighting ice, fog, and fatigue before landing in Paris. Lindbergh became an international hero.
New technology
There was a lot of new technology made in the 1920’s. One, the most popular, might be Henry Ford’s Model T. With this invention came different innovations made to improve this new vehicle. While developing the Model T, Ford also made the assembly line which was adopted by many people because it made labor fast and easy. Mass production, making large quantities of 1 product, was also used by other industries.
Silent movies were being made in 1922 and just gained popularity. Another new technology of the time is the radio. Nowadays a least one radio is found in almost every home in America. The radio was a great way to get news spread to a majority of people. Sports news, concerts, and sermons were listened to as some American’s favorite pastime.
