What about being prejudice? Prejudice is an opinion that has no reason, many times this can lead to offensive name calling. Prejudice is basically being biased. Think about the times where there was no equality among the colored people that is being prejudice. When stereotyping people have a mental picture of the group and the truth about them can be exaggerated. One thing in clear is stereotypes and misconceptions are not the same as being prejudice or discrimination. Discrimination has to do with how a person behaves with another. Most high schoolers go through some kind of stereotype because one way or another they are judged. A label is put on them. With adults the same thing can happen at work, people notice the way an individual does

In Gretel’s Ehrlich reading, About Men, he himself has a stereotype on cowboys ,“Ranchers are midwives,hunters,nurtures,providers and conservationists all at once. What we’ve interpreted as toughness-weathered skin...only mask the tenderness inside”(226). Meaning a person can be based on the people around them and their inside story is something to think about, seeing the reality can really change the perspective of someone who is labeled. Shy people are seen at school as the ones who do not talk much or are stuck up. Some students have seen introverted students take advantage in a sense that their own classmates copy work and the one student is too shy to speak up. Others may wonder if people like them have a social life. Perhaps being called “shy” is an insult or a bother to them. What is behind that shy person is what matters and giving them time to open up is good. “Why are you shy?” is a common question most do not know how to answer but have you considered thinking that maybe calling someone shy is the reason why they are that in the first place. Physiologically when heard being called something many times the person begins to believe it, that is not good.
