In order to begin testing this hypothesis, we will start off by using a control condition, also known as a control group. The control group is the dependent variable not subject to the independent variable. The independent variable in this case would be the experimental design also know as the experimental group. The experimental group is subjected to the independent variable. It is important to included a control group, and an experimental group to show the difference between driving skills while using a cellular device which will be the independent variable, and driving without the use of a cellular device which would be the dependent variable. Without a control group or an experimental group there would be no starting point to test our hypothesis.

In this case we will use the double blind study. This study allows neither the participant nor the experimenter to know which group they have been assigned. By doing this we have eliminated the chances of the observer effect. The observer effect is when the participants behave differently when they know that they are being watched, so eliminating this effect will allow the participants to behave more naturally. The double blind method will also eliminate observer bias. Observer bias is when the observer has a tendency to see what they expect to
