Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, born in the year 1451, voyaged across the Atlantic in search of a westward passage for direct trade with Asia in 1492. With burning ambitions, Columbus traveled to claim wealth and power for Spain and to convert the “pagans” of the New World to Christianity. Following in Spain’s footsteps to expand their country’s empires to the Americas, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands would send elite navigators to venture across the Atlantic Ocean in hopes to claim land and acquire power, only to soon realize a gigantic landmass blocked the western route. In addition, the English were also interested in the New World’s offers to its country; multitudes of opportunities to become rich and powerful, as well as offering an expedition that seemed promising with the abundance of information that came about from other European countries’ past voyages and various maritime technological advancements.…

Christopher Columbus was an explorer from Europe who was said to have discovered America. When he got here the land was already in habited by a group of people. The Native Americans were the first known group to inhabit the land which is now known as North America. When Christopher Columbus got there and discovered the Native people he was fascinated by what he saw. His first impression of the American people was that he was fascinated by the way they lived, he says they are uneducated fools, and that they had great physical standards.…
Christopher Columbus is the one who founded America. In 1492, thinking he had landed on the other side of Europe, Columbus had found a new land called America. This had happened because Christopher Columbus was trying to figure out a shorter route to get to the other side of Europe. This matters because, he was the explorer who found America. He had explored in the years of 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502.…

In elementary school history class Christopher Columbus was the great explorer who founded the Americas. However, in tenth grade history class I have learned that Christopher Columbus is the person who started the biggest genocide in history. Ninety-three million people were lost, over a 150 year period, because of him. He should not even be credited with the founding of the Americas because there were people that had been living there for hundreds of years already.…
Columbus, while credited with discovering America, was not the first person to step on the soil. Native Americans had inhabited the land years and years before Columbus arrived. In addition to that, Columbus also stumbled upon America on accident as he was actually trying to get to India. Once he got to the New World, his actions could be described as…
When Columbus found the USA For many centuries, Columbus has been summoned as courageous explorer whose daring, determination, and navigational skills led to the discovery of America. In 1492, he commanded the first European expedition to navigate the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in the Americas. Even though he was not the first European to land on this continent, previous voyages had no valuable results. Columbus first expedition to America brought significant changes in the world. Indeed, his discoveries in West Indies led to the rapid, rampant, and permanent settlement.…
Christopher Columbus, known as the man who founded America, was actually looking for an Atlantic route to Asia. He had four voyages between 1492 and 1504 were wondrous at first, but disappointing in the end. He won support of Ferdinand and Isabella, the Spanish monarchs, for the “enterprise of the Indies.” According to his letters, some people see him as a hero, and some don’t. In my opinion, I think he is a little bit of both.…
His motivation was wealth and power. He didn't give credit to the person who actually saw the caribbean islands because Columbus wanted all the credit. Also Columbus sold slaves to spain for his own profit and didn't give any of it to the people that helped him. He was credited for discovering “America” when in reality he did not, he only found the Islands.…
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who spent his early life studying language, astronomy, geography and history (Wikipedia 8). He spent his adult life studying the ocean and appealing to the king Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to grant him financial support and a vessel to travel the vast seas in search of new land (Wikipedia 28). He was an explorer at heart and after many failed attempts to impress the king and queen, he was finally granted ships and the finances to discover new land in favor of Spain. He embarked on four major voyages and on his fourth voyage he set foot on the Americas (Wikipedia 29). Though he was not the first man or the first European to set foot in the Americas, he however, is considered to be the first European explorer to discover the Americas as we know and set routes for the rest of the world to follow.…
