There is also cause for concern in the fishing industry.
The 120,000 salmon that were killed from stings and oxygen deprivation by the swarm of jellyfish was worth over 2 million dollars. China has specifically seen an enormous increase in jellyfish blooms. One fisherman stated that some fishermen have just stopped fishing and they get depressed when they pull the net up to find jellyfish. Some scientists believe that climate change is contributing to the increase because of warmer waters. They also believe that the oceans are becoming stressed and unhealthy and that this is a sign of that problem. So what can we do to help with this problem? Is there a
solution? Most researchers believe we need to do that, research. No one has really studied the life cycle of the jelly fish and scientists believe with more studies and research we may be able to find a way to contain the blooms. If we can decrease the number of jellyfish our eco system can maintain a healthy balance again and help the fishing trade as well. We can also do our part by not polluting the ocean waters with trash and other types of pollution, like oil. The less stressed our oceans are the more balanced they become. As this situation continues to be problematic scientists around the world are working together to find a solution to regain a balanced ecosystem. As awareness continues to rise regarding taking care of our planet, we humans can contribute to the solution through many means such as recycling and putting our trash where it belongs and not in our waters.
