least a block and a half or two blocks of the victim and they did not need a vehicle because they lived close. The reason we can say they lived a block and a half or at least two blocks is because the trail of blood from the offender was followed for a block and a half before the street-sweeper wiped out the trail. There is also the fact that he knew that the house to the left of her was occupied by a nosy elderly lady and the house to the right of her was unoccupied and for sale. Therefore, he had to stay close by her house because the dog knew him and he knew when to go into the house without being seen by the neighbor.
The primary motive for this crime was rape because the offender did not take any of the valuable items she had in the house. The offender entered the house through a large window in the back basement of the house. Once he entered the house he saw the victim and attacked her and killed her by strangulation. Therefore, once she was dead he raped her and then started to burglarize the house as well as try to set it on fire.
The purpose of the arson was to try and burn her body as well as get rid of any evidence that was left on the scene. Furthermore, it makes it seems as if the offender was trying to burglarize and burn the house down instead of raping the victim. Yet the key thing is to destroy any and all evidence on the scene in order to avoid getting caught.
No, it was not the job of an experienced arsonist.
An experience arsonist would have burned the entire house down and left no evidence. This person tried to start the fire by piling paper on the stove and then turn on a burn to light the paper. An experience arsonist would have never started a fire this way. Furthermore, he would not have tried to burn her body with paper that he had lighted from the stove because he would know that it would not work.
The kill took the sash in order to remember his victim and as a trophy of the crime. He could have also taken the sash as evidence that he did kill the victim if it was a murder for hire. Furthermore, the sash from the dress could have been the first thing the killer ever saw her in and wanted to remember her that way. There is also the fact that this is his way of psychologically coping with the rape and killing of the victim because of his own social or sexual down falls.
The killer in this scenario took the pillowcase so that he could place the stolen items in it. He used the pillowcase as if it was a bag. Therefore, he could carry a lot of items without dropping any because we know that her jewelry was taken but we don’t know how much jewelry she had in bedroom. Therefore, rather than take a chance of not being able to get it all he uses the pillowcase to get as many things as possible in it and get
away.
Now according to the scenario the victim is 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. Therefore, the killer would have to be in the height ranger of 6 feet and 1 inch or taller in order to be able to stranger the victim or even get an advantage over the victim. Furthermore, if he was shorter than the victim he would not been able to strangle her without a fight and there were no signs of a fight.
The dog could know the offender in many ways. One way the dog could have known them is because it could be someone who has come by the house several times to see her. They could be a person who found the dog when it went missing and kept it until she went to get it or the dog decided to go back home because it had broken out the fence several times in the past. The offender could also be someone who is always in the neighborhood and stop to play with the dog because we know that Keeper normally barks at strangers.
Unfortunately, we could say that the victim and the offender had some form of prior interaction because the dog knew the offender. Now what type of interaction they had cannot truly be determined at this point. What we do know is that there was a struggler from the victim because of the contusions on her mouth and scratches on her face. Therefore, we can only say yes they did because of Keepers reaction to the offender when they entered the yard and house and that they took her sash.
The reason the bite mark could be irregular could be because of the way she was laying at the time it was placed on her body. It was stated that it was on her left breast and placed after her death. There is also the fact that she was found face down on the floor. Therefore, the way see was laying could be the cause of why the bite mark was irregular.
The rug was placed over the victims face because the killer did not want to look at the victim’s dead face as he raped her. Furthermore, he may have been trying not to degrade the victim although he had already killed her. The offender could have also not wanted to appear to be necrophilia’s so he put the rug over her face in order to perform his sexual act.
I feel that the offender did know Martha and what her normal routine was every day because the dog never barks. There is also the fact that he knew what time she would be home and getting ready for bed as well as how to get into the house without being seen by the nosey neighbor. There is also the fact that he cut himself pretty bad going into the house which means he will need to get medical assists and that he is within a block and half to maybe two blocks from her house. Therefore, once they get a suspect they can check him for a cut or cuts as well as do a DNA test because he left blood on the scene.
This type of rapist would be classified as an opportunistic rapist because the crime scene was very sloppy and not planned out. Now as we know an opportunistic rapist commits rape during the course of another crime. Furthermore, after he killed and raped her he took her jewelry, a camera and some cash she had in a drawer. He never really took anything else that could connect him to the crime such as her checkbook or credit cards.
