What Are The Ethical Issues In To Kill A Mockingbird

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” Is quote said by the honest and fair man, Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus lives within the small county of Maycomb, Alabama, with his two children Jem and Scout and their maid Calpurnia. Atticus is a lawyer who believes that every man is equal and should be given the same chance of success. It is this belief that makes him decide he wants to defend a black man by the name of Tom Robinson, in a case where Tom is accused of raping a woman. As Atticus faces hateful comments and threat for this, his children are too facing problem in school from other children speaking rudely about their father. Though the problems they faced tested, their willpower in staying the bigger person, they overcame the problems together as a family.
Some of the themes portrayed in the movie are ethical values, social injustices, and the stages it takes to reach maturity. The theme of the stages it takes to reach maturity leds into the film’s second strength, character development. As the film progresses, the innocences of Scout being taken away can be witnessed as she becomes more aware of the severity of the situations around her. Though the movie is a brilliant piece itself, it cannot compare to the originality of the novel. The novel has many more plot build up that better develops the story of To Kill a Mockingbird.
