What Are The Four Pillars Of National Honor Society
Scholarship, service, leadership, and character are not only the four pillars of National Honor Society but the four essential structure to becoming the individual I am today.

Through scholarship, I’ve been more than willing to cultivate ‘my mind for knowledge’, in other words, I’ve opened my mind to all possibilities by only focusing on my ability to do the best work in every situation ranging from academics to service to life. However, service has shed the light on seeking my passion to help change the world, the responsibility to support our school and community. The NHS became an outlet for me to benefit others without any recognition in return. Leadership is taking the initiative and sacrifice one’s personal desires in order to aid others.

For many leaders, it’s about them: “How can I get ahead / win / succeed / look good? How can I get more recognition, pay and perks? Students everywhere are being picked for honor societies in their schools. When a student learns that they have been selected for such an honor, it encourages them to maintain their standing, or even find a higher ground. I, Matthew Hurley, was ecstatic to learn that I was considered for the honor society of Fairview Schools. I am now a third quarter sophomore and through my time so far in high school, I believe I have shown the qualities of a student in the Honor Society. I strongly adhere to the thought that I represent the four pillars of an Honor Society member. I have held my grades at a high percentage, helped my community and peers by doing service to them, lead those around me to become superior in their activities that I enjoy as…

To me it is a great honor to be part of this generation because it shows my endurance, hard work, dedication, and deviation. In order to get into National Honor Society you have to have above average grades and be scholarship material. This is something that doesn’t come as easy to me as it does others. I have to put in a lot of time studying in order to get an outcome that I am pleased with. This shows that I am hardworking and dedicated. I can not recall a time that I didn’t turn in a project or assignment in on time. I am responsible, take initiative, and do not procrastinate. When there is a task to be done, I dig into it into it right away and active productive and efficient. Another quality look look at to join National Honor Society is your character. Students with a good character demonstrate honesty and integrity, fairness, respect, responsibility, caring, and citizenship in all their actions. Honesty and truth are morals that I personally like to live by. I also think it is important to be a friendly, nice, and caring person. My mom always taught me that you don't have to like everyone, but you do have to treat them right. Being apart of National Honor Society also allows me to do something that I love- volunteer, out in the community. I am always willing to work to benefit those in need without need of recognition of any kind. I try to give back to my school and community as much as I can. One example of a service project we did for National Honor Society was raking leaves in out in the community for the elderly. Members from National Honor Society would pile into someone’s car with our big rakes and went from house to house raking the leaves. The elderlies were so sweet and very thankful. Some even baked us cookies and desserts which was a great bonus. Many of the elders came out by us and loved talking to us. They were amazed how quickly…

When I think about leadership, the idea of someone standing tall and motivating a group of people comes to mind. Leadership means many things, “ leadership is an influence relationship among leaders and followers who intend real changes and outcomes that reflect their shared purposes” (Daft, 2015, p. 5). There cannot be an actual leadership experience without followers and followers need a leader to follow. As health care professionals it is beneficial to be aware of leadership styles and theories within our practice as it will help us to become better leaders (Gilitinane, 2013).The ideal leader has many traits and characteristics. A real leader understands the needs of the followers and the outcomes that will enhance a working environment…
