Executive Summary
One of the greatest phenomenon in business today is the zeal by companies, especially in the manufacturing and retail industry to gain competitive advantage through innovation and technology that can bring about reduction in cost and fast delivery while also monitoring product visibility in the supply chain. This can only be achieved if all the parties in the supply chain management are linked together through modern technology.
This research paper is done to look at problems in oil and gas SCM and technologies used in SCM and how the impact of Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) and provide solution to SCM problems in the oil and gas industry. To do this, the research has looked at existing literatures on both SCM and several technologies such as bar code and Enterprise Resource Planning have been adopted but the technology that is far more suitable for supply chain management is RFID. The research has looked into the areas of oil and gas industry that RFID technology has been used to provide solution to SCM problems.
Despite these enormous advantages of RFID the draw backs; are cost; privacy issues and this study have tried to look at all the issues from all sides. The research was conducted using secondary research to gather information on both SCM and RFID technology. After
