The whites attitudes towards African Americans at this time were terrible and unjust. As I have said before the majority of them showed hate to them and this feeling would lead to discrimination. The first event That made a big change in equality in the south was the passing of the 15th amendment. The 15th amendment granted all former slaves the right to vote (Reading Through History ). This was important during this time because it would give African Americans a voice in the United States political system. An opportunity to vote gave them hope that their future could be better. Even with their new being passed the whites found a way around the amendment to make it difficult for a black to vote. They created a test that would be given to all African Americans wishing to vote. Besides all of the other factors of you got one wrong answer you failed and could not vote ( Literacy Test ). Even with this obstacle this amendment was a start of change and would soon lead to make greater
