Cerner was introduced to the hospital in 1994 in addition a registration system known as HealthQuest was also implemented during this time. The two systems work together in order to provide electronic health records for the hospital and affiliated facilities.
In 2010, physician offices implemented a system called NextGen which is an electronic health record (EHR) system. However, not all physician offices within the Trinity Health network uses NextGen. As this system is not user friendly and does not communicate well with Cerner. The organization is currently looking for and plans to use a new system when a decision has been determined based on funding. Ellie Candela also stated that the new system would need to have the ability to communicate to the various systems so that when a patient is seen in the emergency department their medical record could be obtained by their primary care physician office and vice versa. …show more content…
However, this changed as a result of Obamacare which deemed that physician offices if given money should implement electronic health systems. This is why hospitals have had electronic health systems longer than physician offices.

As stated in the previous answer, Cerner and HealthQuest communicates and works well together. However, NextGen does not communicate well with Cerner.
