To begin, by examining the various texts one can evidently see that the Puritans not only believed in God, but their entire lives revolved around Him and how they should live their lives especially in prayer. This can be seen in “A Declaration of Remarkabell Prouedenses in the Course of my Life”, when author Dane’s parents tell him how he should act based on what God has said, “My father and mother Gould me that God would bles me if I obeyed my parents”(). People also believed that everyone was eternally damned, except for a chosen few, who have been elected by God to go to heaven so everyone should always strive for greatness which many did through prayer and entering into covenants with God and do work for him which can be seen in “City Upon a Hill” as John Winthrop gave an entire speech on God and how they could please him. “We are entered into covenant with him for this work. Another text that this occurs in is “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, when Jonathan Edwards the author is consistently talking about the wrong that had been committed and how God will strike back against us, but yet never speaks of anything else.
