the Soviet Union, Hungary, and Romania. Many of the Jews of eastern Europe lived in predominantly Jewish towns or villages, called shtetls. Eastern European Jews lived a separate life as a minority within the culture of the majority. They even spoke their own language called Yiddish, which is German and Hebrew. Jews and African Americans were both treated terribly, the events that happened to both groups were very similar in ways.
Both Jews and African Americans had laws governing them. The Black codes were laws on African Americans that limited their freedom. Many States required blacks to sign yearly labor contracts, if they didn’t they were forced to labor without being paid, or fined and arrested. Jews weren’t allowed to go to school because of overcrowding issues the Germans didn’t like. Both groups were viewed as less human In the Dred Scott case, black people were considered property. Nazis referred to Jews as rats. When Nazis called Jews subhuman, they meant it. They were both executed and tortured for their differences to other people. Blacks would be beaten to death or hanged for fighting back, leaving the property without permission, and trying to escape or helping slaves escape. Jews were put in concentration camps that would slowly kill
them. African Americans and Jews were treated similarly, but they also had differences in their oppression. Jews lost rights while African Americans slowly gained freedom. Jews that were civil servants and employees were to be excluded from state service. If the enslaved African Americans had enough money they were able to buy their freedom or their slave owners could make them a free man. Jews were no longer tortured after Hitler died, but Blacks were still being discriminated. After Hitler died Germans left and Jews that were still alive were no longer tortured or killed. Blacks still got abused because of their skin and how they looked and tortured. Jews got discriminated because of their religion while blacks did because of their skin color and how they looked. Hitler hated the Jews because of what they believed in. Blacks were brutally beaten because of their skin color because whites thought they were above them. Jews and African Americans were both persecuted back then. Both their lives were similar for a long time during the oppression. Many people were killed in these events and time frame. I think it was very wrong to just kill people because they are different and you think you’re better than them. People were in the wrong just to discriminate and persecute people.
