Sociologists analyze the social phenomena at three different perspectives. The three primary perspectives include; functionalist perspective, conflict perspective and symbolic interactionism perspective.
According to Functionalism each aspect of the society is interdependent and also each aspect contributes to the society’s functioning as a whole. Functionalists believe that the society is held together by cohesion whereby the members of the society agree upon certain issues, work together to achieve what is best for the society. Social consensus involves two forms which include mechanical solidarity and organic solidarity. Mechanical solidarity cohesion arises when people in a society maintain similar beliefs and values to perform in the same types of work. The conflict level operates on the macro level of analysis. The conflict perspective brings a negative impact in the society. The society does not perform as a unified organ. The perspective according to Karl Marx who believes that the classes within a society are involved in conflicts where by society is shaped according to the result of that conflict. The division of the society into two brings benefit to the owners in production. Karl Marx argues that the bourgeoisie use of the owners’ power to control is to bring benefit to themselves and not the whole society. The theorists look at various aspects of the society and tend to research on what conflict results to those conditions as they want to improve those who are powerless in the society.
