"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This quote is taken from chapter three, on page thirty of the novel. Not only is it just moral advice from Atticus to Scout, it is but a sheer beginning of Scout's magnificent path to adulthood. These simple words of wisdom from her father represented a similar way in which Atticus led his own life. He can easily relate to his children and refer to everything in a way where his kids can understand it ("climb into his skin and walk around in it"). Scout struggles with trying to put her father's advice into reality. Near the end of the novel, Scout accomplishes this by putting herself in "Boo Radley's skin" and that way shows a huge step to maturity. Scout's journey to adulthood took a giant leap thanks to her father, Atticus, who gave her moral advice that she would always remember.…

Boo was locked up in the bottom of the courthouse for awhile because of this but after he came home no one ever saw him. Another reason the kids will never see him are the kids are too scared of him. Jem and Scout claim that there is a malevolent phantom living in the house otherwise known as Boo Radley. Apparently, one time Miss Stephanie Crawford woke up in the middle of the night and saw Boo Radley looking directly toward her through his window. Jem adds that Boo was scratching at their back screen late at night but was gone way before Atticus could catch him. Jem told Dill if he knocked on the Radley’s door he would definitely wind up dead. This started a chain of events where Dill dared Jem to go knock claiming that Jem was scared. Of course Jem wanted to prove to Dill he wasn’t scared of Boo Radley so, he ran through the yard slapped the house and came running back even faster. After he ran through the yard and back Scout and Dill followed right at his heels back home. They all were afraid of getting caught by Boo Radley so they ran all the way home. Jem, Scout, and Dill made…

Boo Radley is one of the most important characters in the story. “Hey Boo,” (Lee, 362). This is the first chapter where you actually meet Boo. He is standing in the corner of Jem’s room when Jem broke his elbow. Everybody thinks Boo is this really scary person. They call him Boo because he’s like a ghost. His real name is Arthur Radley. Jem described him as, “about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained—if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time." (Lee,chapter1) This shows what Scout and Jem thought of him. It was a not very good assumption. He turns out to be not so creepy in the way he looks and turned out to be a very nice person which scout didn’t really expect. They realized their perceptions was wrong because he gave them food, fixed Jem’s pants, and gave them dolls over time. She came to expect it as she matured and got…

For starters, Calpurnia helps scout become more lady like at the end of the novel by teaching her proper manners and edict. Scout learned cooking and cleaning skills from Calpurnia while Jem was busy growing up and distancing himself from her. “Just come right on in the kitchen when you feel lonesome, we’ll find lots for you to do in here.” (Lee 154). Another example of Calpurnia teaching Scout proper manners was when she corrects Scout for thinking that she is better than Walter Cunningham. “Yo’ folks might be better than the Cunningham’s, but it don’t count for nothing the way your disgracing them.” (Lee 33). When Calpurnia scolds Scout for thinking she is better than Walter, she is telling her how she was being extremely rude. Calpurnia tells her that it is not acceptable to treat company rudely. Calpurnia helps scout develop into the person she is at the end of the novel by teaching her appropriate lady like actions.…

One characteristic shown of Jem and Scout is their ability to empathize or “….climb into their skin and walk around in it.” (pg 31). During the novel Jem develops a high level of emotional intelligence that allows him to understand the situation of others, as well as what they may be thinking or possible the way they will act. The reader first discovers this characteristic about Jem when he stops Scout from bashing up Walter Cunningham in the schoolyard and invites him over for dinner. “I [Scout] stomped at him [Walter] to chase him away, but Jem put out his hand and stopped me.” (pg 24). Jem stops Scout bashing Walter because he knows the ordeals Walter and his family face every day. To make up for Scout, Jem invites Walter over for dinner because Jem knows Walter is lucky to get a proper meal a day. Scout develops her empathy from this example when Calpurnia takes her into the kitchen and explains the Cunningham’s situation. “Yo’ folks might be better’n the Cunningham’s but it don’t count for nothin’ the way you’re disgracin’ ‘em….” (Page 26). Through the course of events involving Walter Cunningham, both Jem and Scout learn to climb into the skin of Walter and enhance their ability to empathize.…

Atticus is an understanding father who always encourages his children to do the right thing. He is also an excellent role model for Jem and Scout. The Cunninghams are “country folks, farmers, and the crash hit them the hardest” (27). They may have no money, but they at least pay back with little favors over the years. [insert sentences that I don't know how to word here]. Walter Cunningham, unlike Burris, tries to maintain his dignity and values. He respects adults and try to look his best on the first day of school. Although Walter didn't have any shoes, he did have “on a clean shirt and neatly mended overalls”, showing that he actually cares about his first day of school (25). Walter is also able to have a nice decent conversation with Atticus, which shows how he is respectful to adults. Walter may be so poor to not be able to have shoes, but at least he [can’t think of words that don't sound so…
