that President Truman wanted $400million dollar’s for aid for Greece and
Turkey which these countries was under communism. “One aspect of the present situation, which I wish to present to you at this time for your consideration and decision, concerns Greece and Turkey. The United States has received from the Greek Government an urgent appeal for financial and economic assistance. Preliminary reports from the American Economic Mission now in Greece and reports from the American Ambassador in Greece corroborate the statement of the Greek Government that assistance is imperative if Greece is to survive as a free nation.” President Truman secretary George Marshall came up with the Marshall plan
Which gave $13.5 billion to rebuild Western Europe after the war. “It is becoming more and more evident to everyone that the implementation of the Marshall Plain will mean placing European countries under the economic and political control of the United States and direct interference by the latter in the internal affairs of those countries.” It finally came into place after the war ended which ended communism in Europe for good.
After it all ended the United States finally had peace for a little until the next war came around and caused havick in the United States. After the United States dropped the first atomic bomb the Soviet Union had to figure out how to make one and that ended up with some people associated with the United States giving some top secret material out causing problems with the United States and with President Truman.
” the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the French Republic, each in his own zone of occupation, and also jointly, in matters affecting Germany as a whole, in their capacity as members of the Control Council.” Also the Soviets believed in Communism which also caused conflict between the United States and the Soviets. Many areas in Eastern Europe had been or still was under communism. ” Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest and Soviet sphere, and all are subject in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and, in many cases, increasing measure of control from Moscow.” All these countries was under communism until after the Cold War ended. During the Cold War Stalin cut the roads and railroad at the borders of West and East Germany in what is known as the Berlin Airlift. ” The general usefulness of Berlin as center of an intelligence network has been impaired, while in particular, access to soviet deserters and anti-communist Germans has been made more difficult.” So President Truman thought about how the United States could still get items over to West and East Germany. President Truman came up with the idea of the Berlin Airlift to deliver goods to
Germany. “The U.S.S.R may even recognize that the present success of the airlift, combined with the firm stand of the western powers has: (1) raised western prestige in Germany and increased German hostility to the Soviet Union; (2) spurred western plans for rearmament and military coalition; and (3) precipitated the local problem of Berlin into a crisis of world scope, fax exceeding Soviet calculations.” After Stalin realized that there was no stopping the Airlifts, he finally opened the roads and railroads back up for goods to be transported into west and East Germany. In conclusion, President Truman did all that he could do to prevent the Cold War from happening, but since it could not be prevented President Truman handled it the best he could with what was going on with the Berlin Airlift, Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, along with the conflict with the Soviet Union. Even though the war did not go as planned the United States played with what they was given to keep their people safe.
