Schizophrenia is not caused by childhood experiences or lack of parenting, and the symptoms of each person are not identical to others with the same disorder. Although, due to common perception, we believe Schizophrenia means split personality and that is not the case. Most people with this mental disorder are not a threat to others, but there is a severely high suicide rate correlating with Schizophrenia. Signs may develop slowly over months and years, or they can be sudden. The disease may come and go in cycles of remission and relapse. Some of these early warning signs include: Hearing or seeing something that is not there, a consistent feeling of being watched, a transition in personality, failure to sleep or concentrate, and unsuitable or unusual behavior. People with schizophrenia can be clumsy and uncoordinated. They may also display involuntary movements and may grimace or show odd mannerisms.
