What Causes Someone To Partake In Domestic Violence
his week’s chapter talked about contributing factors to what causes someone to partake in domestic violence. Many studies have been conducted that reveal a correlation between people who have a substance abuse problem and people who engage in intimate partner violence. The studies support that men who have a drug or alcohol issue are 3.1 times more likely to abuse their partner. They also have found the same correlation with women who have a substance abuse issue. I was not surprised with all the evidence and data that support the claim that people who have a substance abuse problem are more likely to be abusers because most of the scenarios that I personally know of that involve domestic violence, both parties use drugs and abuse alcohol. In my opinion I believe that people who engage in drug and alcohol abuse definitely are more likely to be in abusive relationships. I do not feel like these substances cause people to become violent but they do alter a person’s mind and the part of your brain that makes decisions which causes a person to act out of character. The person of course had to already have an abusive personality but when one takes drugs the lines of what not to cross become blurred and instead of calling their …show more content…
Studies revealed that one – fifth of elder abuse offenders were identified as abusing substances when they emotionally abused an older adult. Another study showed that fifty percent of offenders who physically harmed an older adult were under the influence of a substance. Also they found that when sexual abuse had taken place against an older adult that twenty – eight percent of the offenders had a substance abuse problem. These facts are gross and overwhelming and support that people who use drugs and abuse alcohol are more likely to abuse people in

Within those 48 words, more than just the cat coming to a house to entertain the kids way conveyed (Dr. Seuss Biography). Other stories such as Yurtle the Turtle and The Butter Battle Book each have understandable symbols. In addition to symbolism, Dr. Seuss used rhyme as another key to his superlative writing and cartoons. For example, Seuss used rhyme in the Cat in the Hat when he said, “...Make that cat go away! Migrants in general, add to the labor force and help companies save on cost for labor and services. It may not necessarily mean they agree with the illegal migrant problem, yet owners and companies find a way to capitalize on the situation. Wright, Levy and Citrin bring to light two theories of judgements that may explain support for illegal and legal immigrants or the lack there of. Wright, Levy and Citrin explain how “attribute based” judgements and “categorical” judgements are used to determine whether there is support for illegal and legal migrants or not. Wright, Levy and Citrin believe the issue is not whether someone comes over illegally or legally but boils down to a person’s support for someone based on merit, skills, attitude, gender,…

The risk of physical abuse may increase with an alcoholic parent. They may lack the patience necessary to provide antiquate parenting skills and may turn to physical punishment, or abuse. Kunitz, Levy, McCloskey, and Gabriel (1998), explain that “Physical abuse is a significant risk factor for alcohol dependence.” This highlights how serious physical abuse is by alcoholic parents. Children who are abused have a higher risk factor of themselves developing a dependence on alcohol. This creates a cycle of addiction and violence within families that can be very difficult to…

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention defined elder abuse as a person age 65 or older that have been injured, exploited, or otherwise mistreated by someone on whom they depend for protection (upon whom they rely for care and basic needs). As with other forms of human abuse, older adult maltreatment includes emotional, sexual, and physical neglect, as well as physical and sexual violence: financial abuse and violation of right are particular issues for elders (Watson, 2015). Among all, neglect, is the most common form of elder mistreatment. Neglect is the refusal or failure to fulfill any part of a person’s obligations or duties to an elderly, such as providing medication or food. The majority of elderly abuse cases go unreported and unaddressed. According to the Elder abuse statics report, for every cases of elder abuse reported to authorities, about five go underreported due to the victims fear of retaliation by the abuser (Watson,…

Elder abuse and child abuse are very common in our society and has been occurring for a long time now. One of the main things that makes elder abuse different from child abuse is the age of the person being abused. An estimated 1.5 million cases of elder abuse occurs in the U.S. annually, according to one congressional study group mentioned in the book (Wallace & Roberson, 2015, p. 181). The text defines elder abuse as the conduct which results in harming or injuring an elder physically, psychologically, causing material harm, or neglect (Wallace & Roberson, 2015, p. 190). However, authorities cannot agree on a definition for elder abuse (Wallace & Roberson, 2015, p. 190).…

The research topic I chose was the impact that substance abuse (whether it be drugs or alcohol) has on domestic violence offenders. I feel that most domestic violence offenders are currently abusing, or have abused some type of substance at some point in their lives. Sometimes even the aggressor can cause their abused spouse to misuse substances as well causing their behaviors to change or possibly cause them to become unconscious. Domestic violence isn’t always the same act of force in each case, but regardless of the case it’s always negative.…
