What Do You Believe About Writing
What do you believe about writing, and why?

What do you believe about writing, and why?
I believe that writing can be a great tool for everyone in order to express themselves freely. Not everyone is a writer; some people have to work at putting their thoughts and words together, before putting them to paper. We are all unique in how we express ourselves; some are just more creative than others. How do we as individuals, get to that point to be able to expand or elaborate further on paper our thoughts? When we have finally gathered our thoughts and start to lay the words down on paper, how do we then decide how to organize them to be able to present them to our audience? In order to start the writing process we have to come up with a topic that we believe would interest others. We then need to do thorough research to have all of our facts and supporting documentation. This would also include making sure that we cite our sources. We never want to plagiarize; using any other persons work without giving them full credit is unethical and dishonest. With that being said, how do we learn to cite our sources properly? How do we determine if the source is accurate? This is all part of learning the writing process. Once we have learned the process, I believe we can all become a great writer if we so choose to be.
I for one, have a fear of writing or expressing my thoughts and ideas for fear of being ridiculed or laughed at. I need to work on being able to better express myself and become more comfortable with sharing my thoughts or ideas with others. I also would like to learn in further detail how to develop good ideas in which to write about. I would like to write a paper that would capture my audience from the beginning to the end of my writing. How do I learn this process? How do I get over my fear? I am hoping through this class that I will gain better knowledge of writing so that someday if I choose to write, it will hopefully be a captive paper.
As for setting my goals, I think I will need to work on every aspect of writing for an academic or formal setting. I need to hone in my argumentative skills, writing drafts, becoming a better reader of others’ writing and learning how to practice creative writing. All in all this is going to be a tough class for me; however I will strive to do my best. Any and all feedback will be greatly appreciated.

She doesn't let me read much of what she writes, but when she does, I can see the passion and the joy that she has for what she writes about. I wish that I could write with such a fire.…

My writing process has always been a frustrating one. I like writing, but I don't think I'm very good at it. When I was younger, I loved letting my creative side shine by writing silly stories and pretending I was Stephen King, using words that I didn't even understand. My dad read me Shel Silverstein's books of poems and and drawings. Those books inspired me so much to write and to draw and be creative on a blank sheet of paper.…
