It is good to hear other people’s opinion on your work, and see you are doing it right and for help they are suggestions and if you don’t like them you don’t have to change your work.…
I have really enjoyed my practicum hours, observing and learning from the counselors at West High School. Many of my observations surrounded graduation and A-G requirements. Several of the counselors were going through the transcripts of their sophomores and juniors to see if they were still on track to graduate. Then, they would call in those they needed to meet with and talk to them individually. The solution for several that I sat in with was to add a zero period class. The counselors took two days to call in all of the English classes. They went over the differences between high school graduation requirements and A-G requirements needed to enter a CSU or UC school. Then, we handed out their transcripts, went over their gpa, and…
Slavery, from the eighteenth century, has changed drastically to the present time. The main change I have researched is treatment, which is what I am doing my paper over. When slaves were brought to Jamestown the had no knowledge of their own birthday or background. The masters kept it that way, and gave them no sense of knowledge making sure they would stay “dumb”.…
To help make my essay a better paper I had a peer review with my classmate Ashley. After a while of editing, I realized in order for my paper to work I realized I needed some grammar edits, a few word exchanges, and some rephrasing. As far as the grammar editing, it’s nothing more than wording and punctuation as to not only exchanging words, but also needing to add words as…
I learned two major things about my writing skills during this class. First, when presenting an essay for peer review, make sure that it is not a very rough draft. Second, the types of essay styles can change easily when writing. Even though my paper is supposed to be expository, using certain words and tone can create a totally different essay style.…
I learned that writing a paper is not only difficult for me but also to my peers. They struggled a lot with getting their thoughts down on paper just like I did. I learned that writing essays is not easy for anyone, especially when writing under pressure. I learned that sometimes leaving your writing for last minute can be a bad thing because they begin to write nonsense in order to get there work done. My peers writing assignments showed me what are the correct things to add to my paper, and what not to add to my paper.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…
This is not me insulting your ability to write, on the contrary it is me trying to help your writing have a better flow. Too often students in WRI-101 ornamental words to enhance their writing and make it more intricate, but yanking a word out of the thesaurus will not make your writing any better if it is not used in the right context. Furthermore, be sure to use transition words to also make it flow better. Moreover, please do not forget to proof read, as many careles mistakes often slide when one forgets not to. Though you might be tired of me at this point, I still have more wisdom to offer. It is imperative that you take peer editing seriously. I concede that it is hypocritical of me to say this, as I did mention that I often did not nitpick my essays, but peer editing is what saves me of the above “do nots” that I just described. Having an extra set eyes glaring upon your paper waiting to inflict judgement on your writing goes a long way to making your writing coherent. Likewise, it gives you a chance to read your paper once again as your correcting all the mistakes you…

Trying to be an honor student was everybody's goal in high school. Who didn't want to be the smartest kid in class? I did ;instead, i went a different route. In retrospect, my senior year I can say I thought as myself as a " KNOW IT ALL." I misunderstood learning. Theres a saying by Donald Rumsfeld from the book Make it Stick "There are known knowns, there are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns;that is to say there are things that we now knew we don't know. But there are also unknown- there are things we do not know we don't know." In other words there are things that we think we might know but we really don't their just your beliefs. Number one way to misunderstood learning is assuming you know something, when you're still questioning if you know it.…
