What Does Education Mean in a Persons Life
What does education mean in a person’s life

For most of us an education opens doors and gives you opportunities. As a child we do not always understand the importance of education, happily drifting through our school years. For some, learning is an uphill struggle. This can be for many reasons, some of us just aren’t academic and do better with ‘hands on’ subjects. Others may not be able to focus on their school work, perhaps because they find it hard to concentrate or because their life outside of school fills their thoughts.
For some though, Academics subjects are interesting and learning comes easily. From all areas of the spectrum, education is important and you should do the best you can. Now, one person’s best is always going to be different from another’s. It would be unrealistic to think that we can all achieve the same things. It is the variety in life that makes us interesting people.
Achieving academically is one thing but without other life skills it can be devalued. When our children are in their formative years we need to help guide them to be well rounded young people. It is no good spending your life with your nose in a book if you never interact with your contemporaries. All that knowledge you attain from your books needs to be shared and used, and to do this successfully you need character.
All through our lives we are building our character. Some do it better than others because some are guided better than others. If you have good role models it is inevitable that some of those traits will show as you get older. Activities that encourage character building are as important as traditional academic subjects. Taking part in sports that make you contribute as part of a team or show leadership skills are valuable pastimes. Getting involved in a community project will develop another side of your character.
So, whatever you think education is, don’t forget that our life skills are just as important as our academic

You made a great point when you mentioned that education is significant to one's success in life. This week reading assignment helped me to acquire knowledge about the conflicting functions of education. For instance, “function 1 socialization: assist in learning to be productive member of society through the passing on of culture” (Ballantine & Hammack, 2012, p. 29). For example, students may have “different experiences depending on their gender, social class, racial, or ethnic background” (Ballantine & Hammack, 2012, p. 29). For example, a student who is low income will receive a different type of education than a member of the upper class. I am excited to learn about the dilemmas that are presently faced and what we can do to create…

Academics is an area that we all are given, but what we chose to do with is another matter. Some individuals tend to do better in this area than others. Some individuals excel in this area and continue on to college and pursue other degrees and credentials. Unfortunately, when this happens their practical knowledge is lost. Kohn states in his article: “No one should offer pronouncements about what it means to be well-educated without meeting my ex-wife. When I met her, she was at Harvard, putting the finishing touches on her doctoral dissertation in anthropology. A year later, having spent her entire life in school, she decided to do the only logical thing . . . and apply to medical school. She will, however, freeze up if you ask her what 8 times 7 is, because she never…

Aristotle once said, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.” Every person has experiences that influence their view of education. Every day we are influenced in one way or another. Whether it be by our parents, our family, our friends, our environment, or society. A significant event for me, which influenced my education, was the day that my parents told me they could not afford to send me to college.…

When you build from an education you can either decide what to learn from it, or completely loose it at all which is one of the leading causes to controversy towards this topic. We live in an era where there’s an abundance amount of opportunities available that people actually start to forget that they exist and they choose to not take advantage of it. It's like when students in a high school are given free public education, where they decide what to learn and take from it in order to grow and expand plans for the future careers of the new generation. But most scholars today are blind and don't see the obvious purpose for this type of education, most students in their high school years waste their time not caring whether they've done their class work for the day or not, they've rather socialize in the hallways with others students just like them. I'll give you a certain point in my life where I asked my parents about education and why is it important. They gave me a simple response and told me “it's the key to every unlocked door you could have ever imagined of and with that key holds the power of your education to be able to open that door.” It’s back when my parents were younger that you had to actually pay for a proper education, not many people where they lived had…

Many claim to be educated people. But what does it mean to become an educated person? An educated person is not the one who has a high GPA or scored advanced on assessment tests. To be educated is to accept the idea that a person does not know anything until he or she opens the door to learning different aspects of life. School is not the only way of seeking knowledge; education derives from different activities like exploring other peoples’ ideas, thinking creatively, learning from one’s past mistakes, and learning skills that may help you survive and maybe succeed in life.…

Education’s objective is to help people to learn the concepts of socialisation and of citizenship into a society, ultimately preparing individuals for entry into the workforce. At the same time education fulfils a purely intrinsic need for edification. On every level the purpose of education is that each and every person—both within the collective whole of humanity and individually as a vitally necessary and fully whole and contributing part—ultimately reach the full realisation of what it means to be human.…

Education these days does not simply mean passing on knowledge. It provides concrete qualifications as certification of an individual’s progress that can be used for entry into institutes of higher education, or to secure a job. Some individuals fare better than others in terms of academics, setting the stage for a better chance in securing a high-paying job than those who do not fare as well. Education divides society because society places such a big importance on the individual’s performance while receiving an education.…
