Many people wonder what it truly means to be free. To be free is for people to have the ability to make their own decisions when they please. Of course all freedom is limited to a certain extent but in the end we are all free to do what we desire. This is what it means to be free. It may not seem like much but there are many people who have to fight for their freedom and then there are those who suffer from not being free. In the country of Pakistan, a girl named Malala wasn’t given the same freedom that many others around the world are given. All the females in her country aren’t allowed to receive an education. Instead of accepting the fact that the Taliban doesn’t want them going to school she risked her life and she continued going to school. One day she was going home on the bus and a Taliban came onto the bus and shot her in the head. In the poem “Caged Bird” by Maya Angelou she talks about the difference between a free and a caged bird. In the poem, it states “The free bird...names the sky his own...but a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams… his wings are clipped and his feet are tied…”. In the first part of the quote it talks about how the free bird can do as he pleases and declares the sky his own.
