McCarthyism is when someone makes an accusation without proof. The crucible is about a man assuming women dancing in the woods are witches. The only part he has is that they are dancing in a circle. This is an example of Mccarthyism. The town then accuses more townfolk of being witches, causing an uproar. The accused refuse to plead guilty, leading to their deaths.…

To be courageous is indeed to do something that one’s self believes in even though it is difficult and terrifying. In our current packet, which included information about “the Salem Witch Trials,” there were three women who were accused and trialed as being a witch. One of these three was a Native American Maid named Tituba courageously “confessed and implicated,” that she believed she was indeed a witch including the two other girls. During the time, the girls who were claimed to be the victims had continued to accuse fellow villagers of the community for higher social status. At a certain point in April, there was a courageous “afflicted victim,” named Mary Warren who admitted her lies and stated that her peers were doing the same. Another act of courage was done by Giles Cory, accused of witch craft, was literally pressed to death for refusing to enter a plea with the court. He refused till his very last words which were, “more weight,” as he stuck to his belief no matter how fearsome his situation was.…

The allegory of Arthur Miller and McCarthyism began when Miller wrote The Crucible which shows the similarities between the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare. The fear of the the crucible still in some people as it did in the fifties “the play seems to be about the dilemma of relying on the testimony of small children accusing adults of sexual abuse, something I'd not have dreamed of forty years ago.” Arthur Miller once stated “The…
Throughout Joseph McCarthy’s accusations of communism there was talk of some of his victims possibly being innocent. One of these victims that was allegedly innocent was Arthur Miller. Miller, because he was wronged by the law, decided to write a similar story to the events of the McCarthy trials in order to make McCarthy’s ideals seem flawed. Miller believed that if he could write a story to prove the accusations incorrect he would be able to re-establish his respectable reputation. This story is known as “The Crucible”, a story about the Salem Witch Trials and how the townspeople were falsely accused of witchcraft, but couldn’t do anything to plead there innocence. Miller managed to show through “The Crucible”, how ridiculous McCarthy’s accusations were and how it was very…
The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism are two very different time periods in which the persecution of others, based on religion or party affiliation, happened. These two eras occurred two centuries apart, yet both are very similar. The constant fear and chattering of rumors induced hysteria and paranoia within both societies. It makes you wonder if we, as a society, can accept others who are not described as normal? Or can we even accept those who are different and not judge them at all? In the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller, you can see the resemblance between two time periods. The historical content within the book presents two different time courses that caused plenty of trouble for many people because of hysteria and paranoia that spread through society. Through the literary devices theme, characterization and symbolism, we can see the parallels between the two historical ages, within the book The Crucible. The Crucible was written in 1953 as a play to disguise the political message of McCarthyism. Miller was the scapegoat like many others during the Salem Witch Trial; he was accused of being a communist during the time of the Cold War. Thus, this was his reasoning to hide the message of persecution, due to his party affiliation within the book.…
You ask me what parallels there are between the play The Crucible and the event The McCarthy Era. There were many parallels throughout the whole play. In this play everyone was blamed for no reason at all and all everyone one did was make excuses to try and not get their own selves in trouble. They were always wondering why everyone was getting tricked into believing that witches existed and it was because they were all just trying to get themselves out of trouble. Arthur Miller shows the audience that people have not moved on that much from when people were believing in the Salem witch trials. All through this play, Miller used the trails in The Crucible and the McCarthy Era because he realized that the events were the same. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible to help everyone today, who wasn’t alive back then, notice that they were not going crazy they were just trying to keep themselves alive and just they were believing everything they heard.…
The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller in 1953 is a political allegory, based on the Salem witch trials. During its time, it was used to inform people about the horrid nature of the accusations which took place during the Red Scare. In 1996, director Nicholas Hynter released a film adaptation of Miller’s play. Despite popular belief, movie adaptations hold just as much significance as the original written text. Both the text and its visual counterpart are created to convey a message, just in their own respective ways. As authors use literary devices to create meaning and convey themes within their texts, directors use movie techniques. A technique like lighting can be used to characterize, while visual symbolism can allude and foreshadow, and zooming can create a greater…
The author purpose to write this story is to explain why he wrote The Crucible, what pushes him to write such a story. Arthur Miller tried to make life real by showing that things get repeated in history. The McCarthy trials are similar to Salem Witch trials. People were being accused for things that they never did and do not have any proof that they did these thing. The Crucible shows that whatever is happening now happened before, and we are repeating the history. It is important for people to remember so they do not make any more mistakes,or make up any silly stories that will affect society The anti-communist rage in the McCarthy era and the Salem witch trial in Massachusetts destroyed people's lives; the mass hysteria that swept the United States.…

The world at the present is always the inspiration of a work. This idea is manifested in The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In the play ‘The Crucible’ we learn a lot about John Proctors character and can easily see that he contributes to the dramatic effect of the play, he causes a lot of arguments throughout the play and yet all that he argues for is good and usually for the good of others. This shows that he is strong, loyal, and confident; these are good characteristics for John’s character as he needs to stay strong to argue his case and while he did show weakness he came out in the end as a good, strong character that died for what was right. Johns character relates to the name of the play ‘The Crucible’ because a crucible is a instrument used in Science to extract a pure substance from a metal, this relates to Johns character because although at the beginning…
