What Does No One's Here To Sleep Mean
The next song, No One’s Here to Sleep by Naughty Boy, is similar to One Black Sheep. It describes once again how Philip feels left out by his peers. While One Black Sheep explains how Philip feels left out at school, No One’s Here to Sleep is more along the mean boys picking on him. This is shown in the lyrics, “Everywhere I look I fall,” “You were always faster than me, I’ll never catch up to you” and “I can feel them coming for me”. The boys, Jordan and Dominic, call him mean names, exclude him, make sure to pick him last for sport games, and even beat Philip up at one point in the book. Philip tries his best, as shown by the rugby game he plays with them at school, he even managed to score a point for his team. “... I kept waiting for everyone

The first decision Paul made was to defend himself from a kid playing fullback from Palmetto Middle School. In Paul’s first soccer game of the season, the Tangerine War Eagles were playing the Palmetto Whippoorwills at Palmetto Middle School. Paul went into the game playing center forward (playing for Tino who had been throwing punches and had gotten taken out of the game). Paul had found an opening to score, but one palmetto fullback knocked him down, stretched his goggles, and placed a scoopful of mud in Paul’s eyes. Paul was so mad that he started to blindly punch towards the fullback. This action made an impact on Paul’s life because now the players on Paul’s soccer team have more respect for Paul because now they consider Paul to be part of their team, that he’s……. A War Eagle!…

In the story, Philip blames his Language Arts teacher for not teaching well and being uptight. He claims that she is the only reason that he does not have a passing grade in that class and therefore the reason that he cannot be on the track team. My opinion is that Philip does not even consider the possibility that he may be part of the problem. I think that if only Philip would try a little harder in Miss Narwin's Language Art's class, he would be able to pass. The problem is, Philip is extremely stubborn and insists on believing that his teacher likes picking on him. He refuses to even try to even think about Miss Narwin's side of the story.…

The second stanza conveys the admiration and respect people feel towards Feliks. His father is seen as a 'gentle father' in the first stanza, however the persona of Feliks develops into a hard-working and strong character. Admiration develops for Feliks as Peter Skrzynecki 'often wondered how he existed on five or six hours sleep each night'. The simile 'fingers with cracks like the soda he broke' demonstrate the hard work Feliks performs. Peter casts himself as the onlooker or outsider which makes him feel a sence of isolation and discomfort.…

The character strengths of Phineas and Lance Armstrong make them both successful and loved. Firstly, Phineas is loved because he creates harmony while Armstrong is loved because of his charitable personality. After Phineas dies, his best friend, Gene, praises him: "He possessed an extra vigor, a heightened confidence in himself, a serene capacity for affection which saved him. Nothing, as he was growing up at home, nothing at Devon, nothing about the war had broken his harmonious and natural unity" (Knowles 202-203). It is evident throughout the novel that Phineas’ harmonious qualities set him apart from his peers and made others love him. Despite Gene’s hard feelings for Phineas, he compliments his dead friend for having qualities that made peace and not war. It can be inferred that others, without hard feelings against Phineas, have only kind feelings for him. Phineas loves nothing more than to bring friends together for a games and fun. At the carnival he organizes, but cannot participate in due to his leg…

Songs are always open for interpretation. For example, a song can have a very happy rhythm yet have very sad words that create a much darker atmosphere than the beat leads us to believe. Another example is the very different views of literalists and contextualists. This song is about a growing boy losing his innocence or happiness through ways that are proven in the text. These pieces of proof will be expanded upon later, but the loss of an ‘inner child’ is evident when the artist, Ben Gibbard, uses literary devices like imagery, rhyming, and symbolism.…
